Build software that protects billions of Java and Android applications

As Guardsquare expands across Asia-Pacific, we are looking for Java Software Engineers with a passion for Java internals, compiler technology, software engineering, and application security.

You will work on DexGuard and other Java-based products, developing technology that makes Java and Android applications smaller, faster, and significantly harder to reverse engineer and tamper with. Your work will involve improving a complex codebase, researching new code-hardening and optimization techniques, and solving challenging engineering problems where security, performance, compatibility, and developer experience all matter.

As one of our first engineers in Singapore, you will help establish and shape our local R&D presence alongside newly hired engineers and experienced colleagues relocating from our headquarters in Leuven.

Up to 50% of your role will focus on R&D Customer Support. This is not traditional helpdesk support: you will investigate, reproduce, and debug complex technical issues while working closely with customers and internal engineering teams to find robust solutions.

You will report to the local Managing Director for office-related matters and functionally to your R&D Team Lead for technical priorities, guidance, and professional development.

What You'll Work On

  • Develop and improve our Java-based products, including ProGuard, DexGuard, and future Java technologies.
  • Research, test, and implement new code-hardening, optimization, and application-processing techniques.
  • Work with Java bytecode, compiler technology, build pipelines, and complex application-processing workflows.
  • Maintain and continuously improve a large, mature codebase.
  • Investigate, reproduce, and debug complex technical issues.
  • Help customers successfully integrate and use our software.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal R&D teams to solve challenging engineering problems.
  • Improve software quality through extensive testing.
  • Stay ahead of developments in Java, compiler technology, mobile application security, and reverse engineering.

What You Bring

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 2–3 years of relevant software engineering experience.
  • Excellent Java skills.
  • Experience working with large or complex codebases.
  • Experience with Linux.
  • Experience with low-level programming and debugging.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly and collaborate directly with customers.
  • An interest in software security and reverse engineering.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of compiler technology, Java bytecode, or complex application processing.
  • Experience with code obfuscation or optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of information security.
  • Experience with reverse engineering and commonly used tools.
  • Familiarity with Android and Android build tools such as Gradle and ProGuard.

Why Guardsquare?

This is not standard Java application development.

You will work at the intersection of Java engineering, compiler technology, mobile security, and reverse engineering. You'll solve challenging problems involving Java bytecode, application optimization, code hardening, and build pipelines while helping shape the products, features, and engineering practices you work with.

The technology you develop can quickly make its way into industry-leading Java and Android applications used by some of the world's largest payment providers, banks, and social media companies.

We offer:

  • A full-time, office-based position in our new Singapore office.
  • Challenging engineering work at the forefront of Java application protection and reverse engineering.
  • Real-world problems that will deepen your expertise in Java, compiler technology, and mobile security.
  • The opportunity to help build a new R&D team from its early stages.
  • An international environment focused on technical ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • The ability to share your ideas and turn them into working solutions.

At Guardsquare, we bring together colleagues from many different backgrounds and nationalities. We value open technical discussion, different perspectives, knowledge sharing, and continuous growth.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Singapore at the time of application. We are unable to provide visa or work permit sponsorship for this role.
