Senior Software Engineer – PHP / Laravel

A fantastic opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join a growing tech-for-good company building software that makes a positive difference to people’s everyday lives. Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will work on varied technical challenges, from developing new functionality to connecting systems and improving performance. This role would suit an experienced PHP and Laravel Developer who enjoys taking ownership of feature design, solving complex technical problems and supporting colleagues.

Location: Near Ipswich, Suffolk – hybrid working with mandatory office attendance every Tuesday and Friday. These days are fixed, so applicants must be able to meet this working pattern.

Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Requirements for Senior Software Engineer – PHP / Laravel:

• Strong commercial experience developing applications using PHP and Laravel

• Experience independently designing and delivering individual features or smaller software solutions

• Experience working with modern frontend frameworks or libraries, ideally React

• Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL

• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns and testing

• Experience using Git-based source control and participating in code reviews

• Strong problem-solving skills, including investigating and resolving complex technical issues

• Clear communication skills and the ability to support colleagues and contribute to technical discussions

• Comfortable adapting to changing requirements within a fast-paced, collaborative development environment

• Experience with message queues and event-driven architecture is beneficial

• Experience with caching, containerisation or deployment tooling is beneficial

Responsibilities for Senior Software Engineer – PHP / Laravel:

• Design, develop and improve PHP and Laravel applications, APIs and supporting services

• Take ownership of technical design for individual features and smaller solutions, translating requirements into practical development tasks

• Build user-facing functionality and the backend systems that support it

• Develop integrations that allow applications and external systems to work together

• Investigate complex technical issues and improve application security, performance and reliability

• Work with engineers, QA testers and wider stakeholders throughout development, testing and deployment

• Contribute to wider design discussions and improvements to engineering practices

• Coach colleagues, provide constructive code reviews and share technical knowledge
