Full description

Streets is a modern, forward-thinking accountancy practice with over 33 offices across the UK and growing. We combine the expertise of a national firm with the collaborative, people-first culture of a close-knit practice. Our team supports an impressive variety of clients, from entrepreneurial start-ups to established companies, charities, and family businesses.

Role purpose

Support the migration of client and practice data from existing software systems into new, cloud based practice management software across approximately 31 offices. Working with local office teams, IT and the software house, you will obtain data, prepare migration files, investigate data-quality issues and coordinate corrections and reconciliation. The role combines hands-on analysis with regular communication and follow-up across offices with different systems and working practices.

Main responsibilities

  • Work with office staff, IT and the software house to identify where data is held and establish suitable extraction methods.
  • Arrange and undertake exports on behalf of local offices, including visits to offices with on-site servers.
  • Prepare and cleanse datasets using Excel, Power Query and relevant software reporting or extraction tools, such as IRIS Data Miner.
  • Apply mapping rules supplied by the software house and document questions or exceptions requiring clarification.
  • Review the software house’s individual office anomaly reports, investigate issues and help local teams understand the corrections required.
  • Identify missing, duplicated, inconsistent or unmatched records and coordinate their resolution.
  • Prepare reconciliation summaries and obtain local managing-partner approval of cleansing and reconciliation.
  • Chase outstanding information and maintain clear records of progress, actions, dependencies and deadlines.
  • Maintain controlled versions of source files, prepared datasets, exception reports and migration change logs.
  • Support changes and agreed manual migration activity during the first two weeks after office go-live.
  • Handle large date sets of confidential client and staff data securely, following agreed access and transfer procedures.

Essential skills and attributes

  • A relevent degree, placement, employment or practical project experience. An accounting or finance degree is not essential.
  • Strong practical Excel skills, including filtering, matching records, identifying duplicates, checking completeness and reconciling totals.
  • Familiarity with accounting-practice processes and an ability to understand how client, accounts, tax, payroll and workflow information relates.
  • Confidence learning unfamiliar software and working across different technical environments.
  • A logical, methodical approach to investigating data problems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and disciplined file and version management.
  • Clear communication, including explaining issues to colleagues with different levels of technical knowledge.
  • Confidence following up missing information and working constructively with office staff, partners, IT and software-provider teams.
  • Ability to organise several datasets and deadlines, follow agreed rules and recognise when expert guidance is required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to offices across the UK.
  • A responsible approach to confidential information.

Desirable experience

  • Power Query or comparable data preparation tools.
  • Bookkeeping, accounting-practice or financial-data exposure.
  • Data cleansing, reconciliation or system migration projects.
  • Experience with IRIS, CCH, Karbon, Digita, TaxCalc, AlphaTax, Sage or similar systems.
  • Use of software reporting, export or data-mining tools.

  • The opportunity to be part of a collaborative and growing team.
  • 21 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Workplace pension
  • Employee benefits scheme offering discounts from hundreds of retailers.
