ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB is seeking a Senior Environmental Project Manager / Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) to join our expanding Site Investigation & Remediation (SI&R) practice in New Jersey. This position offers the flexibility to be based in Manasquan, NJ; Newark, NJ; or Princeton, NJ.

Our SI&R practice provides comprehensive environmental consulting services that investigate, manage, and mitigate environmental risks while satisfying regulatory requirements and supporting project success. Our services include Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Preliminary Assessments, subsurface investigations, remedial investigations and actions, soil management planning, corrective action planning, environmental permitting support, and regulatory compliance.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental professional and LSRP with strong technical expertise, established New Jersey client and regulatory relationships, and a desire to help grow VHB’s SI&R practice. The selected candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals across VHB and will have access to a strong network of technical resources, including VHB’s broader SI&R team across the company’s footprint.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, manage, and lead environmental site investigation and remediation projects throughout New Jersey.
- Serve as the Senior Project Manager and Licensed Site Remediation Professional for applicable NJDEP regulatory cases.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop creative, cost-effective, technically sound, and regulatory-compliant solutions for sites impacted by contamination.
- Manage environmental due diligence, site investigation, remedial investigation, remedial action, soil management, and corrective action projects.
- Prepare, coordinate, and review technical reports and regulatory deliverables for clients, NJDEP, EPA Region 2, and project stakeholders, including:
- Phase I Environmental Site Assessments;
- Preliminary Assessments;
- Desktop due diligence memoranda;
- Site investigation reports;
- Remedial investigation reports;
- Remedial action workplans;
- Corrective action alternatives analyses;
- Soil management plans;
- Corrective action plans; and
- Related environmental compliance documentation.
- Provide oversight, mentorship, and management of junior staff, including coaching on field procedures, technical documentation, task management, budget management, and client service.
- Manage multiple projects and tasks while maintaining scope, schedule, budget, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and support project proposals, scopes of work, cost estimates, and business development pursuits for environmental investigation and remediation projects.
- Maintain effective and professional communication with clients, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, project personnel, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain and broaden client relationships, including strengthening VHB’s visibility in the New Jersey marketplace and pursuing opportunities with existing, prospective, and prior clients.
- Represent VHB through participation in professional organizations, conferences, industry events, and community engagement.
- Stay current with NJDEP regulations, environmental due diligence standards, EPA Region 2 requirements, emerging contaminants, evolving remediation technologies, and industry trends.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret environmental data, evaluate complex site conditions, and develop practical remediation strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare, review, and present technical information clearly to clients, regulators, and project teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, schedules, deadlines, and client expectations.
- Strong leadership, adaptability, collaborative problem-solving skills, and demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Licensed Site Remediation Professional licensure required.
- 8+ years of professional experience in environmental consulting, site investigation, and remediation.
- Demonstrated experience preparing, managing, and reviewing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Preliminary Assessments.
- Experience with environmental due diligence, subsurface investigations, remedial investigations, remedial actions, corrective action planning, soil management, and regulatory reporting.
- Experience with multimedia sampling, including soil, groundwater, soil gas, and/or air sampling.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current 8-hour refresher certification required.
- In-depth knowledge of NJDEP regulations, the New Jersey site remediation program, and environmental due diligence requirements. Established positive relationships with NJDEP and EPA Region 2 strongly preferred.
- Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist licensure preferred.
- Field and office experience required; this role is primarily office-based with occasional field oversight.
- Brownfield investigation and remediation experience is a plus.
The full-time annual base salary range for this position, located in New Jersey, is $100,000 to $150,000. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
Annual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package.
