Position Overview

The Information Security internship position is a role that requires a combination of technical expertise, critical thinking, and business-oriented project management. You will primarily work on advancing NISC’s information security initiatives by managing various information security technologies, maintaining a set of critical security controls, supporting several information security audits, and supporting NISC’s information security policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor external security vulnerabilities on company systems and route issues to system owners for remediation
  • Assist with information security audits, including annual SOC compliance activities
  • Serve as a resource to other employees regarding information security questions, policies, and best practices
  • Support the administration of information security and physical security programs
  • Conduct research, analyze security-related issues, and contribute to projects that strengthen the organization's security posture

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Preferred

• Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts, threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices.

• Familiarity with vulnerability management concepts and industry resources such as CVE, CVSS, and NVD.

• Working knowledge of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and macOS, and a foundational understanding of networking concepts such as firewalls, network segmentation, and access controls.

• Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to learn and adapt in a rapidly changing security environment.

• Effective verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and collaboratively, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism and ethical judgment.

Desired Education

  • ​​High School diploma or equivalency required
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information security, cyber security, information technology or a related field
