Head of Engineering - AI and Data Science

Overview of the rolePassport, Euromonitor's flagship platform, has just been rebuilt from the ground up. It is the largest technology investment in the company's history, and AI now sits at the core of the system. 

Euromonitor is establishing an AI and Data Science team in India to lead this work. The remit is a framework driven, platform centric approach to engineering AI and Data Science capability into Passport and other customer offerings, including new products built on AI and agentic flows. 

Based in Bengaluru and reporting to the VP & Global Head of Engineering, this is a leadership role for the function in India. It suits a technology leader with a strong software engineering background and proven expertise applying AI and Data Science through platforms and frameworks. That expertise should translate into delivering stronger products and business opportunities that are AI driven. The role also calls for a track record of building and scaling teams from the ground up, experience working across a geographically diverse, global organisation, and the ability to quickly understand emerging technologies and incorporate them into products that amplify business outcomes. 

What you’ll doPlatform Strategy 

• Collaborate with other Heads of Data Science across Euromonitor to define a unified, platform centric strategy, roadmap and governance model for AI and Data Science across Passport and other customer offerings. 

• Set the operating model, governance and standards for the platform. 

• Own the platform roadmap for agentic AI products that turn Euromonitor's data into new customer experiences. 

• Advise executive leadership on where to invest in AI and analytics capability. 

Agentic AI and Data Science Competency 

• Agentic AI product offerings that use Euromonitor's data to enhance customer experience, unlock new revenue streams and create new offerings. 

• AI driven search and discovery, including RAG based retrieval, that surfaces relevant insights across structured and unstructured data. 

• Recommendation engines and natural language processing that power discovery and personalisation across Passport and other products. 

• Evaluation mechanisms that measure the accuracy, relevance and quality of AI and agentic outputs, to keep search, discovery and agentic offerings reliable at scale. 

• Workflow optimisation through agentic automation, reducing manual effort and improving speed across Passport and other products. 

• Creation of reusable AI & data science assets, features and agentic components that can be applied across Passport and other products. 

• Applied understanding of Machine Learning models and techniques, expressed through mechanisms such as ranking, personalisation and recommendation that strengthen search, discovery and agentic capability. 

• Efficient, cost-effective deployment of agentic AI systems and product features in production, at speed and scale, with governance, AI Ops, monitoring, quality controls and Responsible AI practices. 

• Partnership with Engineering, Architecture and Data Platform teams to build production ready AI platforms and AI Ops pipelines on Euromonitor's cloud native architecture. 

• Integration of AI and analytics capability into Euromonitor's products, in partnership with Product, Engineering, Data Platform, Research and Commercial teams. 

Leadership 

• Hire, coach and develop Euromonitor's AI and Data Science team in India. 

• Build a pipeline of future technical leaders within the team. 

• Lead with a metrics driven approach, using data to track outcomes and guide decisions across the team. 

• Lead with transparency and a collaborative approach, building trust across the team and with stakeholders. 

• Set the working culture and norms for the team from its first hires.

What we’re looking forEssential 

• 15+ years in software engineering, building enterprise platforms and scalable applications, including significant leadership experience and a track record of building and scaling teams. Ideally, this includes experience setting up a team in a new location. 

• Experience defining a platform strategy for AI adoption across a large organisation and leading the change needed to adopt it. 

• Proven people management experience, including hiring, coaching and performance management. 

• Proven experience turning AI and Data Science functionality into platforms and reusable solutions with product and business impact, rather than as a research or modelling discipline in isolation. 

• Experience shipping agentic AI features inside a commercial, customer facing product, rather than in internal analytics tooling. 

• Generative AI and Agentic AI experience, with practical depth in AI agents, agentic workflows, large language models, vector databases, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and natural language processing techniques that power search and discovery. 

• Strong engineering foundations in applying Machine Learning and deep learning within products, with practical credibility in Python, SQL and at least one major ML framework, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch or scikit-learn. 

• Working depth in at least one major cloud platform, such as Azure, AWS or GCP, and modern AI Ops practices. 

• Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills. Comfortable working across global time zones and functions. 

• A collaborative approach that puts the team first, with a track record of building trust across Engineering, Product, Research and Commercial functions. 

Desirable Experience 

• Background in market research, publishing, information services or another business where the product is analysis and the reputational stakes of accuracy are high. 

• Experience partnering with vendors and solution providers to accelerate technology adoption. 

• Experience in AI cost management at scale, including consumption modelling and unit economics.
