The Marketplace team is building the platform capabilities that power scalable, multi-channel commerce experiences across Staples. As part of Merchandising, this team partners closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Data, AI, Operations, and business stakeholders to create reusable platform services, improve operational efficiency, and support marketplace growth. This is an opportunity to help shape how commerce platforms evolve—bringing strategy, technology, and business outcomes together in a highly visible role.
Staples is seeking a Sr eCommerce Platform Product Manager-Marketplace to define and drive the strategic vision, roadmap, and evolution of the Marketplace Commerce Platform. In this role, you will lead platform product strategy for capabilities that enable scalable multi-tenant and multi-channel commerce, improve platform adoption, and deliver measurable business value. You will translate complex business and technical needs into actionable platform strategies, product investments, governance models, and reusable capabilities that support current and future growth.
This role is ideal for a product leader who thrives at the intersection of commerce, platform architecture, data, automation, and stakeholder influence. You will work across senior leaders and cross-functional teams to shape platform direction, prioritize investments, and ensure technology decisions translate into stronger customer, associate, and business outcomes.
This role will require the incumbent to work out of our Framingham, MA HQ facility on a 4-day/week hybrid schedule. We are open to considering candidates willing to relocate to within a commutable distance to our facility and may be able to assist with relocation costs.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and drive the long-term product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Marketplace Commerce Platform, aligning platform investments with business objectives and growth priorities.
- Define platform capabilities, priorities, and investment trade-offs that support scalable multi-tenant and multi-channel commerce operations.
- Establish governance frameworks for platform configuration, tenant management, role-based access controls, and reusable service development.
- Lead the evolution of APIs, integrations, data contracts, and extensibility frameworks as strategic platform products that enable growth and interoperability.
- Partner with Engineering, Architecture, Data, AI, and business teams to translate complex business needs into scalable platform solutions and product requirements.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and intelligent workflow capabilities to improve operational efficiency, user productivity, and business outcomes.
- Define adoption strategies, success metrics, governance standards, and performance expectations for emerging platform capabilities and technologies.
- Build and maintain measurement frameworks, KPIs, service-level objectives, and operational metrics to evaluate platform performance and business value.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance platform scalability, reliability, adoption, and cost efficiency across channels, tenants, and business units.
- Lead highly visible cross-functional programs and strategic initiatives, influencing priorities and outcomes across matrixed stakeholder groups.
- Provide platform expertise and strategic recommendations to senior leadership to support technology investment decisions and long-term business planning.
- Mentor product managers and key stakeholders while fostering best practices in product strategy, platform management, innovation, and customer-centric decision-making.

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Information Systems, a related field, or an equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in product management, platform product management, software product strategy, solutions architecture, enterprise technology, or a related discipline.
- Experience defining and managing product roadmaps, platform strategies, and cross-functional priorities.
- Experience working with platform architectures, APIs, integrations, event-driven systems, data contracts, or scalability models.
- Experience supporting multi-channel commerce, marketplace platforms or digital commerce solutions.
- Experience using data, KPIs, and business metrics to guide product decisions and measure outcomes.
- Experience leading complex initiatives across matrixed organizations and driving outcomes through influence.
What’s needed- Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree.
- Experience leading product strategy within large-scale marketplace, SaaS, or platform businesses.
- Experience with multi-tenant architectures, role-based access control models, configuration frameworks, or platform governance.
- Familiarity with marketplace APIs and integrations, including Amazon, Walmart, Target Plus, Best Buy, or similar ecosystems.
- Experience embedding AI, machine learning, automation, or agentic capabilities into production business workflows.
- Background in solutions architecture, software engineering, enterprise integration, or technical leadership prior to product management.
- Experience developing platform measurement frameworks, operational intelligence solutions, or cost-to-serve models across multiple business units.

The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, or other forms of variable compensation.
