About the Role

The Senior Project Manager reports to the Director of Delivery Services and is responsible for delivering business initiatives to enhance H&R Block’s financial service offering to clients.

The role will oversee and manage largescale IT projects throughout their entire lifecycle, including developing project plans, defining project scope and objectives, creating a timeline and resource allocation plan, managing project budgets, monitoring progress, and identifying and mitigating risks.

The Senior Project Manager works closely with cross-functional teams, including relevant parties from various departments and is responsible for facilitating communication, coordinating efforts, and aligning priorities to ensure project goals are met.

This is a 22 month term position that is based in Calgary and offers a hybrid work schedule, with 3 days per week in-office.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Works with relevant parties to define and document the project's scope, goals, deliverables, risks, constraints, success criteria, and estimated resource requirements.
  • Creates, oversees, and shares detailed project plans, including metrics, staffing, schedules, and budgets.
  • Conducts regular project status meetings with relevant parties and Steering Committee meetings, gathering feedback and addressing challenges.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project rollout with strong adoption by the business.
  • Coordinates activities between internal and external delivery teams and relevant parties to manage vendor engagement.
  • Provides clear guidance to the project team and resolves conflicts.
  • Coordinates efforts with other project managers leading interdependent projects or projects sharing resources.
  • Provides post-implementation support as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education and 10 years of experience in project management, or a relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Proven track record of leading financial systems projects; experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central is an asset
  • Possession of PMP Certification an asset.
  • Experience in the Financial Services or Retail industries an asset.
  • Experience with leading and overseeing the successful implementation of ERP systems is a strong asset.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships and cross collaboration between cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience in project planning and execution of large and complex projects.
  • Strong decision-making and analytical skills to assess project performance and make data driven decisions.

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills, French communication skills an asset.
