Manager, Software Engineering

Position Overview As a Manager, Software Engineering in the Services organization, you will have the opportunity to lead the development of analytics applications that sit atop vast datasets gathered by retail stores, restaurants, banks, and other consumer-focused companies. Innovative product opportunities, modern business questions, and intricate datasets present uniquely challenging problems that we are eager to take on. Mastercard's next-generation platform blends industry-leading analytics, advanced software architecture, and the latest web technologies to face these problems. Our software is required to effectively decipher analytically complex insights from these problems, on which businesses base multi-million-dollar business decisions. As a member of the Business Experimentation & Optimization team, you will apply your full-stack development skills to building industry-leading business experimentation software that brings sophisticated analytic techniques to business users around the world. We are rapidly expanding our product offerings and innovating on how we deliver Business Experimentation & Optimization solutions to our clients.

Role As a part of Business Experimentation & Optimization, you will build revolutionary products that advance how businesses all over the world seize the most value from their data. As a Manager, Software Engineer within the Business Experimentation & Optimization team, you will:

  • Formally supervise, coach, and develop a high-performing development team
  • Provide strategic leadership related to specific applications and systems, or software-development methodologies
  • Lead large-scale projects from inception to release
  • Lead design of major, complex parts of the platform with high-quality development
  • Define state-of-the-art service-oriented software architectures
  • Spend 50% of your time on active software development tasks
  • Lead planning and scoping features for the team
  • Build features used by some of the world's largest organizations to make multi-million dollar decisions
  • Critically review the code and guide the team with a focus on improving the code quality
  • Play a key role in shaping the direction of engineering processes through working on a small team empowered to organize and run the team as they see fit
  • Mentor junior engineers and teammates
  • Collaborate across teams with exceptional peers who are passionate about what they do

Ideal

All About You

  • Experience managing, coaching, and guiding high-performing software development teams
  • Experience with full-stack, data, and cloud technologies such as Databricks, AWS (Data Services + Agentic/ML Services including EMR, Agent Core, Bedrock, etc), .NET/C#, Java, Spring Boot, React, Python, Spark, or similar.
  • Experience solving and implementing scalable solutions to solve complex problems
  • Experience with AI tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, etc., and their effective usage in PDLC is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with advanced object-oriented programming, design principles, refactoring, microservice development, and databases
  • Strong understanding of web technologies and server-side technologies for developing microservices
  • Strong understanding of microservices development and integration of microservices with UI technology
  • Passion for analytical/quantitative problem solving
  • Motivation, creativity, self-direction, and desire to thrive on small project teams
  • Prior experience leading a team or mentoring other engineers, both technically and professionally preferred
  • Superior academic record with a degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
