About Delavan Holdings
Delavan Holdings is a diversified holding company with interests spanning automotive retail, RV dealerships, hospitality, logistics, industrial services, and professional services across Wisconsin and the greater Midwest. Our portfolio includes Kunes Auto Group, Kunes RV, Lake Lawn Resort, Camp Timber-Lee, G10 Fulfillment, and Ignition Dealer Services. The Office of the CTO is building a small, senior technology team at the holding company that serves every operating company in the portfolio, and this is one of five roles we are adding to it.
You would be the first dedicated platform engineer at the holding company. The cloud footprint, the infrastructure-as-code, the deployment path, and the alerting are all yours to build and operate, and the engineers, data team, and IT staff across our operating companies depend on them.
What You'll Do
- Build, operate, and maintain our Azure environment end to end: subscriptions, cloud identity and access, networking, compute, and storage, plus the cost discipline to keep spend predictable
- Define and manage infrastructure as code in Terraform or Bicep, kept in GitHub with code review and documented changes, so environments are reproducible and maintainable by more than one person
- Operate the container platforms running our internal applications and services, including the API and AI gateway components, and administer the gateways themselves: routing, authentication, rate limiting, and policy
- Own monitoring, alerting, and observability: build the dashboards and the alerts that are actually actionable, and serve as primary responder for infrastructure incidents and outages
- Diagnose to root cause, ship the fix, communicate status to affected teams, write the RCA, and run the lessons-learned review
- Maintain the infrastructure beneath our data platform, including compute, storage, orchestration, and connectivity, in partnership with the data and analytics team
- Manage backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity for platform-hosted systems, including regular recovery testing rather than assumed recoverability
- Handle credentials, access, and data responsibly across entities: least-privilege access, secrets out of code, and respect for entity boundaries and data governance
- Take changes through design, build, test, and release, deploying through staged Azure environments with controlled releases
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, reviews, and retrospectives, keeping work broken down and current in Asana
- Partner with forward deployed engineers, the data team, and IT to unblock deployments and make the safe path the easy path
- Use AI tools at an advanced level in daily work: writing and reviewing infrastructure code, diagnosing issues, drafting documentation, and automating routine tasks, while verifying output and owning the result
Requirements
What We're Looking For
- 3 or more years in platform engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, cloud, or site reliability engineering, operating production systems
- Hands-on Azure: Entra ID, RBAC, service principals and managed identities, virtual networks, DNS, firewalls, private endpoints, and core compute and storage services
- Production Kubernetes experience (AKS or EKS), including deployments, networking, scaling, and upgrades
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform, Bicep, or similar. Depth in the underlying skills matters more to us than the specific tool
- Strong PowerShell or Bash scripting, practiced inside a modern workflow: Git and GitHub, code review, and documenting and testing changes as routine
- Strong SQL and comfort supporting database and data platform infrastructure
- Monitoring and observability with Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Datadog, or equivalent, used to drive real incident response
- Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity practice, including recovery testing, plus cloud cost monitoring and management
- Sound security and data governance habits: least-privilege access, secret management, and careful handling of sensitive data across multiple entities
- Advanced fluency with AI tools in engineering work, such as coding agents and assistants for infrastructure code, troubleshooting, and documentation, paired with the judgment to verify what they produce
- Strong written communication and documentation habits, with the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
What Sets You Apart
- You have administered an API gateway such as Kong or Azure API Management, or an AI gateway routing LLM traffic
- You write working Python for automation and tooling
- You have worked with event-driven architectures such as queues, pub/sub, or streaming, for example with Redis
- You have operated under financial-reporting controls or audit requirements such as change logging and access review
- You have built a platform from close to nothing and know which corners are safe to cut early and which are not
- You treat documentation and runbooks as part of the deliverable, not as cleanup
- Background in automotive retail, hospitality, logistics, or multi-entity or holding company environments
Why Delavan Holdings
- A small, senior team where you own real surface area instead of a slice of someone else's system
- Greenfield work: much of what you build will be the first version of itself at this company
- A portfolio spanning automotive retail, RV, hospitality, logistics, and fulfillment, which means genuinely varied technical problems
- AI is not a side project here. It is budgeted, used daily by leadership, and expected to be part of how engineering work gets done
- Direct access to the CTO and to the operators you are building for, with a short path from idea to production
- Based in the Lake Geneva region of southeastern Wisconsin, with an entrepreneurial, low-bureaucracy culture
Delavan Holdings is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
