About the role
Develop advanced control solutions for electrical energy systems, power converters, and industrial drives. Implement intelligent control algorithms by translating control concepts into practical software.
What they look for
Requirements
Requires a combination of embedded software development skills and practical knowledge in power electronics and control engineering. Candidates should have a strong academic foundation in electrical power engineering or related disciplines.
Full description
You will develop advanced control solutions for electrical energy systems, power converters, and industrial drives. Working at the intersection of embedded software engineering, electrical power engineering, power electronics, and control systems, you will contribute to the design and implementation of intelligent control algorithms for modern energy and power conversion applications.
This role is suitable for both experienced professionals and recent graduates who have a strong academic foundation and relevant knowledge in the required technical areas.
We are seeking candidates with a combination of expertise in embedded software engineering and power electronics/control engineering. A solid understanding of both areas is essential, although relevant academic projects, research, or hands-on experience may be sufficient for recent graduates.
1. Embedded Software EngineeringEssential skills and knowledge:
- Programming experience in C, C++, and Python.
- Familiarity with Git and version control practices.
- Basic understanding of software testing methodologies.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Experience with unit testing, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, or continuous integration (CI).
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and static code analysis tools.
- Experience developing embedded software in large, multi-team engineering environments.
2. Control Engineering and Power ElectronicsEssential skills and knowledge:
- Knowledge of at least one relevant application area, such as power conversion, solar energy systems, battery energy storage, wind power, microgrids, or smart grids.
- Understanding of power electronic devices and systems, including inverters, rectifiers, DC/DC converters, and switching power supplies.
- Experience or a strong theoretical foundation in control loop design, system stability, and dynamic performance analysis.
- Understanding of feedback and feedforward control principles.
- Knowledge of practical control strategies used in power converters and the measurements and feedback signals required for effective control.
- Familiarity with typical control loops in power electronic systems, including current, voltage, and power control.
- Ability to work across the boundary between embedded software and power electronics, translating control concepts into practical software implementations.
Important Considerations
This position specifically requires a combination of embedded software development and practical power electronics/control engineering knowledge.
Candidates with general software development experience alone will not be a suitable match, even if they have worked on software for power electronics products. Similarly, candidates with a power electronics background must also demonstrate an understanding of converter control principles and how these are implemented in practice.
Relevant academic backgrounds include Electrical Power Engineering, Power Electronics, Energy Systems, Control Engineering, or related disciplines. Equivalent practical experience in industry will also be considered.
Particularly Relevant Experience
The following areas of academic study, research, or professional experience would be especially valuable:
- Power converter control and control algorithm development.
- Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) control.
- Field-Oriented Control (FOC).
- Battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Industrial motor drives.
- Inverter, rectifier, and DC/DC converter control.
Candidates who can demonstrate both software engineering capability and an understanding of the underlying electrical systems and control principles are particularly encouraged to apply
