About SafelyYou

SafelyYou’s passionate mission is to empower safer, more person-centered care across senior living through world-leading AI, industry-changing hardware, and remote expert clinicians, significantly improving outcomes for residents while increasing peace of mind for families and reducing costs for communities.

Originating in 2015 as the doctoral research of CEO George Netscher—and inspired by his own family's experience with Alzheimer's disease—SafelyYou was spun out of UC Berkeley’s Artificial Intelligence Research Lab, one of the top five AI research groups in the world. And today, our company is solving critical challenges in senior living, from resident falls and ER visits to staffing concerns, length of stay, and NOI. All helping ensure that communities can focus on improved care for residents while still reaching their financial goals.

SafelyYou is one of five most innovative fall technologies referenced in the Senate Falls Report (2019), a winner of the McKnight’s Tech Partner of the Year, and has been named to Fortune’s Impact 20 list, which recognizes companies making people’s lives better through innovation.

Your Role at SafelyYou Our sensing hardware is how SafelyYou sees what happens in the building. You'll lead product strategy for our next generation of sensing and response hardware, starting with eCall v2, a lower-cost in-room response system built to life-safety standards, and Guardian Pro Next Gen, our next edge sensing device, designed to lower adoption barriers in assisted living. This is a 0→1 hardware role: your decisions shape where and how SafelyYou can be deployed, not just device specs. You define strategy with Engineering and Architecture, not ahead of them. Day-to-day supply chain and vendor operations sit with partner teams, and Device & Fleet owns the installed base.

Key Responsibilities:

The Numbers You'll Own

Stage-Gate Readiness: Programs meeting required customer, technical, regulatory, operational, supply-chain and commercial criteria before advancing

Customer Requirements Validation: Critical product requirements validated with target customers before major investment

Target BOM Attainment: Actual/forecast BOM vs. approved target at each development gate

What You'll Own

The hardware roadmap: multi-generation, grounded in customer evidence and portfolio priorities.

Business cases before NPI: target BOM, capital cost, margin, payback, and IRR, plus build, buy, or partner calls.

Requirements: cross-team needs translated into hardware and edge-compute specs, including privacy, appearance, and acceptance barriers in assisted living.

Sensing modality selection with AI & Intelligence, and convergence on common platforms to avoid SKU sprawl.

Stage gates from concept through EVT, DVT, PVT, and launch, with life-safety certification (e.g., UL 2560) planned in from day one.

Launch and lifecycle: whole-product readiness with Operations and Support, and end-of-life transitions with Device & Fleet.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • The hard requirement: you've taken connected hardware (IoT, edge, or smart devices) from concept through NPI to mass production.
  • 6+ years of product management, with strong business modeling (BOM, margin, ROI/IRR).
  • Working literacy in hardware architecture (SoCs, edge AI compute, sensors) to make credible tradeoffs with engineers.
  • Experience partnering with contract manufacturers through NPI and ramp.
  • Delivery of both off-the-shelf integrated and custom hardware.
  • Strongly preferred: life-safety or regulated devices (UL 2560/1069, medical), non-optical sensing, or senior living and building systems.

Salary Range: $220,000 - $240,000 USD / $200,000 - $220,000 CAD commensurate with experience
