Company Description
Depop is a peer-to-peer circular fashion marketplace where anyone can buy, sell and discover secondhand fashion. Our mission is simple: to make fashion circular by making secondhand as exciting and rewarding as buying new.
Founded in 2011, Depop’s diverse community has helped move resale into the mainstream, where buying secondhand is no longer an alternative, but how people of different ages now engage with fashion. Today, more than 56 million registered users come to Depop to find great value, express their own personal style and give clothes a longer life. We believe that everything you want already exists, and our role is to help people discover it.
Powered by a team of over 500 people, our company is headquartered in London, with offices in New York. In 2021, Depop became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Etsy - the global marketplace for unique and creative goods - and continues to operate as a standalone company. We aim to create an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome, no matter who they are or where they’re from. Just as our platform connects people globally, we believe our workplace should reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We thrive on the power of different perspectives and experiences, knowing they drive innovation and bring us closer to our users.
We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer, providing employment opportunities without regard to age, ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy or maternity, marriage and civil partnership, or any other protected status. We’re continuously evolving our recruitment processes to ensure fairness and are open to accommodating any needs you might have.
AI Disclosure: We use AI tools (Google Gemini) to help our team source and review applications for roles with a high volume of applications. These tools assist our recruiters in identifying great talent but do not replace human decision-making. At Depop, every hiring decision is made by a human.
If, due to a disability, you need adjustments to complete the application, please let us know by sending an email with your name, the role to which you would like to apply, and the type of support you need to complete the application to adjustments@depop.com.
Trust is the #1 thing that keeps our community coming back. Without it, circular fashion can't scale. The Trusted Community team exists to make sure users can trust Depop—that what they see is real, who they're dealing with is safe, and every interaction feels fair.
Our mission is to keep the marketplace and every interaction safe: stop harmful content and bad actors reaching users before harm occurs, so the community transacts with confidence and Depop stays compliant.
We're shifting from reactive moderation to proactive, risk-based prevention-holding risky listings before they're seen, keeping phishers and scammers away, and tailoring friction to risk so good users barely notice while bad actors hit a wall.
Our guiding principle: the best experience is no experience. When we do our job well, harm is rare, safety is invisible, and users just get on with buying and selling.
The Role
We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to own product for Trusted Community. This is a high-stakes, high-ownership role sitting at the intersection of Trust & Safety, Content Integrity, Risk, Engineering and User Experience.
You'll take a wide remit and set the strategy for how we keep users safe end to end—from front-end trust experience that help users make confident decisions, to back-end risk controls that quietly hold and filter harm, to the infrastructure that lets us protect users without adding friction. You'll think user-first while balancing the real tensions in this space, and lead a full squad and partner day-to-day with our Operations team and Support teams. You'll be comfortable owning ambiguity and the nuance that comes with trust—where the "right" answer is rarely binary.
Responsibilities
- Strategy & roadmap ownership: Own the vision and roadmap for Trusted Community. Take a broad, ambiguous remit and turn it into a clear, prioritised plan that balances user protection, business growth, cost and friction. Make and defend the hard trade-off calls.
- Trust experience: Build the experience that helps users trust what they see and who they deal with—review and rating systems, trust signals across the shop and listing journey, and in-context education that helps users spot and avoid harm, and guides sellers to act well and avoid being falsely punished.
- Risk controls: Own risk-based, low-friction controls that stop harm at the source—risk-based listing review and holds, search/recs pre-filtering so bad listings never surface, and risk-based chat controls that keep phishers and scammers away without blocking genuine conversations.
- Safe and frictionless infrastructure: Partner with Engineering and Trust Detection Team to consume and shape risk signals (the Risk Service) so we can decide—in real time—when to rate-limit, verify, hold a listing, or delay a message. Keep good users moving and reserve friction for genuine risk.
- Remove harm, protect users: Drive down harm prevalence—counterfeit exposure, scam and phishing contact, harmful and prohibited content—while protecting genuine sellers from the friction of false positives.
- Cross-functional leadership: Be the connective tissue across Trust & Safety Operations, Fraud Operations, Policy, Legal/Compliance, Trust Detection, Data and CX. Keep partners aligned and moving in a lean, fast environment, and represent trust in wider product and growth conversations.
Requirements
Must-haves:
- Ownership & product thinking: You take a wide, ambiguous remit and own it end to end—shaping strategy, structuring the problem, prioritising ruthlessly, and driving delivery. You think user-first but reason clearly about the trade-offs between risk, cost, growth and friction.
- Data sense: You live and breathe data. You can dig into metrics like harm prevalence, exposure, report rates and retention to find where the real problem is and where to invest.
- User-focused mindset: You keep genuine buyers and sellers front of mind, protecting them from harm and from the friction of blunt controls. You understand that the best safety experience is often an invisible one.
- Communication & influence: You explain complex trust and risk trade-offs simply to senior stakeholders, while keeping deep credibility with your Engineering and Ops partners. You build alignment across a lot of teams.
- Resilience & speed: Trust & Safety is a cat-and-mouse game. You're comfortable in a fast-scaling environment and pivot quickly as new harm trends emerge.
Helpful experience, not required:
We don't expect one person to bring all of this. Adjacent experience, sound judgement and genuine curiosity for the space are just as valuable.
- Relevant experience in Trust & Safety, content integrity, fraud, risk or a closely adjacent space.
- Familiarity with risk-based systems, ML-driven detection, or moderation tooling and workflows.
- Understanding of marketplace dynamics and the unique frictions of peer-to-peer interactions.
- A passion for Depop's mission of circularity and self-expression—especially if you're already part of the Depop community.
