Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Operations Engineering Supervisor, the Data Engineer - Warehouse & Supply Chain Analytics develops and maintains data solutions that support warehouse operations, inventory management, slotting optimization, product placement, and supply chain analytics. This role combines data engineering expertise with warehouse operational knowledge to build scalable data models, automated pipelines, and reporting solutions that improve inventory visibility, storage utilization, material flow, picking efficiency, and operational performance.

The position supports Homebase planning, product velocity analysis, EV battery storage solutions optimization, and slotting initiatives by integrating data from ERP, WMS, forecasting, and operational systems. The Data Engineer provides analytical support to regional teams and PDCs, ensuring data-driven decisions, standardized storage practices, and continuous improvement opportunities across the distribution network.

Key Accountabilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines integrating ERP, WMS, forecasting, inventory, and operational data.

Build and support enterprise data warehouses, data lakes, semantic models, and reporting datasets.

Develop analytical models supporting inventory planning, slotting optimization, Homebase strategies, product placement, and storage utilization.

Analyze SKU attributes, part dimensions, product velocity, cube utilization, storage constraints, and inventory forecasts to identify optimization opportunities.

Create automated solutions and dashboards to monitor inventory health, storage capacity, slotting effectiveness, labor productivity, and operational performance.

Support warehouse optimization initiatives through data-driven analysis of layouts, product positioning, travel paths, and material flow.

Develop algorithms and reporting tools to recommend optimal storage locations based on velocity, commodity type, storage requirements, and operational constraints.

Evaluate warehouse configurations and capacity utilization to identify opportunities for improved space utilization and efficiency.

Partner with Operations and Engineering teams on warehouse redesigns, re-slotting projects, storage expansions, and process improvement initiatives.

Support the development and maintenance of warehouse maps, location profiles, slotting documentation, and analytical standards.

Ensure data models and analytical solutions align with Homebase standards, commodity-specific storage requirements, and operational best practices.

Ensure data quality, governance, integrity, and consistency across multiple business systems and data sources.

Automate recurring reporting, data preparation, and analytical processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.

Develop analytical models supporting warehouse slotting, inventory positioning, and storage optimization.

Analyze SKU dimensions, cube utilization, inventory velocity, demand patterns, EMD, AMD, DIO, and forecasted inventory.

Support product placement strategies based on velocity, pick frequency, handling requirements, and storage constraints.

Develop algorithms and reporting tools to identify optimal warehouse locations for fast-, medium-, and slow-moving inventory.

Support Homebase planning, strike zone analysis, and warehouse re-slotting initiatives.

Partner with Operations Engineering teams on warehouse redesign, storage expansion, and material flow improvement projects.

Build analytical tools to evaluate space utilization, travel distance reduction, and pick efficiency improvements.

Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics solutions that support Supply Chain, Warehouse Operations, and Executive leadership.

Create analytical models and reporting solutions for slotting optimization, inventory positioning, storage utilization, labor planning, capacity planning, and operational performance.

Design and optimize large-scale datasets and analytical models (1M+ records) to ensure accurate, scalable, and efficient calculations across multiple business metrics.

Build flexible data models and business logic that integrate inventory, forecast, WMS, ERP, and operational data while adapting to evolving slotting and warehouse strategies.

Leverage Power BI, AI, Excel, and advanced analytics tools to develop actionable insights and decision-support solutions.

Develop and maintain KPI reporting for inventory health, space utilization, slotting effectiveness, labor productivity, storage capacity, service levels, and forecast accuracy.

Support data-driven decision-making related to slotting, product placement, staffing, network optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Present analytical findings, storage recommendations, and business insights to supervisors, managers, and senior leadership in a clear and actionable manner.

Partner with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and IT teams to translate business requirements into scalable reporting and analytics solutions

Integrate and analyze data from WMS, ERP, and operational systems to support inventory planning and compliance tracking.

Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, EHS, and Compliance teams to ensure safe and efficient battery storage and handling practices.

Support new battery storage initiatives, facility modifications, and process improvements through data-driven analysis and field execution.

Ability to interpret warehouse drawings, location maps, and storage configurations.

Proven ability to communicate across frontline, supervisory, and leadership levels.

Hands-on mindset with willingness to engage directly in operational activities.

Experience designing, building, and maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines and automated data workflows.

Experience developing Power BI data models, DAX calculations, semantic models, dashboards, and reports.
