Role Description:

We are seeking a Security Engineering Intern to join our team, where you'll gain hands-on experience in a large enterprise cybersecurity program in areas such as vulnerability management, endpoint security, threat detection, security controls, and emerging areas such as AI security.

CoStar Group’s Security Engineering internship program provides hands-on experience through three workstreams:

1. Develop a working prototype to solve a cybersecurity challenge.

2. Perform cybersecurity operations such as responding to alerts, analyzing findings, or tuning controls.

3. Assist in a cybersecurity project while learning from experienced team members and building a foundation in modern cybersecurity practices.

Each intern is paired with a dedicated mentor to support technical development, career growth, and day-to-day learning throughout the program. This internship is designed to provide exposure to the types of work performed by Security Engineers and help prepare students for future careers in cybersecurity.

This position is located in Arlington, VA and offers a schedule of Monday to Thursday in office and the option to work from home on Friday.

Technologies & Security Areas You May Explore

At CoStar Group, our Security Engineering team uses a variety of tools and technologies to help identify, prevent, detect, and respond to cybersecurity risks across the enterprise. Depending on the team and project, interns may gain exposure to:

  • Vulnerability scanning and vulnerability management tools
  • Endpoint security technologies
  • Security monitoring and incident response processes
  • Security tool integrations and automation
  • Identity and access management concepts
  • Cloud and infrastructure security concepts
  • Scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar technologies
  • AI security and emerging cybersecurity technologies

  Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited, not-for-profit university or college in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a comparable major.
  • Must be planning to return to school following the completion of the Summer 2027 internship.
  • Must have an expected graduation date of December 2027 - June 2028.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity through personal endeavors outside of undergraduate degree program
  • Available to participate in the full 10-week summer internship program and commit to a 40-hour work week throughout the internship.
  • Coursework, project, internship, research, or work experience related to cybersecurity, networking, operating systems, cloud computing, scripting, automation, system administration, or comparable technical disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly in written and verbal formats.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Experiences:

  • Ability to describe cybersecurity concepts such as vulnerability management, endpoint security, network security, authentication, access controls, or incident response.
  • Exposure to scripting or automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Familiarity with Windows, Linux, networking, or cloud environments.
  • Demonstrated initiative through cybersecurity projects, coursework, research, clubs, competitions, or extracurricular activities.
  • Experience collaborating on academic, project, research, or team-based work.
  • Exposure to AI, machine learning, automation, or AI security concepts through coursework, projects, internships, or personal learning.
  • Security certifications or coursework such as Security+, Network+, CySA+, or comparable cybersecurity training are a plus.

The final salary or hourly rate offered for this role will fall within the range set forth below based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.

Base Compensation: $40 - $45 (Hourly)
