Full description

Be the design lead for a UK PropTech platform, working from Colombo.

Homey is building the operating system for UK residential property transactions: one AI-native platform connecting conveyancing, mortgages and sales progression. Our group includes an SRA-authorised conveyancing firm and an FCA-regulated mortgage broker, so what you design is used every day in real property transactions by home buyers and sellers, conveyancers, case handlers, mortgage advisers and estate agents.

Buying a home is one of the most stressful things people do, and the tools behind it are slow and confusing. We are hiring one exceptional Lead Product Designer to own how Homey looks, feels and works across web and mobile. This is not a role where you push pixels for someone else’s decisions. You will set the design direction for the whole platform, work directly with the founder, product lead and engineers, and see your work ship quickly to real users.

We pay at the very top of the Sri Lankan market, and we offer hybrid working, because we want the best product designer in the country.

What you will own

  • Design direction. Own the end-to-end experience of the Homey platform and decide how it should look, feel and work.
  • Shipped product, not slideware. Take features from problem to launch: research, flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI and interactive prototypes in Figma, then work with engineers until it ships right.
  • The design system. Build and own the design system that our web and mobile apps are built from.
  • Hard problems made simple. Client onboarding, ID checks, document upload, case tracking and dashboards for professionals handling hundreds of cases, all in regulated legal and mortgage processes.
  • Designing for AI. Design how people and AI agents work together: what the AI drafts, what a person checks, and how to make that clear and trustworthy. Few designers anywhere get to do this on a live product.
  • Research with real users. Talk to UK clients, conveyancers and partners, run usability tests, and use analytics (PostHog) to see what works.
  • Raising the bar. Set our design standards and critique culture, and lead the design team as we grow it.

You will probably have

  • 6+ years in product, UI or UX design, including at least 3 years on digital products for a global product company, international scale-up or overseas clients (UK, US, Europe or Australia)
  • A portfolio you are proud of, with end-to-end case studies on shipped products: the problem, your research, the options you explored, the final design and the result
  • Outstanding visual and interaction craft, and expert Figma skills (components, auto layout, variables, prototyping)
  • Experience building or running a design system that engineers use
  • Experience designing both complex web apps or dashboards and consumer mobile or web flows
  • Comfort running user research and usability tests yourself
  • Excellent written and spoken English, and the confidence to present and defend design decisions to UK stakeholders

Bonus points

  • PropTech, fintech, legal tech, insurance or other regulated products
  • AI-powered or conversational product design
  • Accessibility (WCAG) expertise, motion design, or front-end skills
  • Experience leading or mentoring other designers

Not sure you tick every box? If your portfolio is exceptional, apply anyway. The portfolio matters more than the CV.

Pay and terms

  • Monthly pay: LKR 750,000 - 1,100,000, depending on experience, plus an annual performance bonus
  • Hybrid working: 3 days a week in our Colombo office, the rest from home
  • Engagement: full-time contractor, with a top-spec laptop and equipment provided
  • Regular overlap with UK hours (around 1:30pm - 6:30pm Sri Lanka time)
  • Reporting to: the UK-based product lead, with direct access to the founder

Why the best designers join us

  • Real ownership: you are the design lead, not one designer among many, and your work ships to real users quickly
  • A design budget for the tools you want, plus an annual learning and conference budget
  • Design challenges few others offer: making a regulated UK property transaction feel simple, and designing alongside AI agents
  • Work with UK legal, mortgage and product experts, with international exposure without leaving Sri Lanka
  • A clear path to Head of Design as the team grows

A fast, respectful hiring process

  • A 5-minute introductory call
  • Portfolio deep-dive: walk us through two projects you are proud of. No unpaid spec work.
  • Optional paid design challenge (LKR 25,000) if we need to see more, on a real Homey problem
  • Meet the founder, product lead and an engineer, then references

We aim to make an offer within two weeks of your first call.
