About the role
Develop, test, and maintain bare-metal C firmware for STM32-based robotic subsystems while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams. Act as the primary lab responder to investigate, reproduce, and resolve firmware-related robot issues.
What they look for
Requirements
Requires practical experience in embedded C software development for microcontrollers and the ability to debug code effectively. Candidates should have a structured approach to problem-solving and familiarity with hardware interfaces like UART, SPI, and CAN.
Full description
Mentee Robotics, now part of Mobileye, brings world-class robotics expertise, together with Mobileye's decades of leadership in computer vision, machine learning, and autonomous driving technologies. Building on that foundation, Mentee by Mobileye is creating the "MenteeBot", the AI-first humanoid robot that combines perception, reasoning, learning, and advanced dexterous manipulation, designed to work alongside people in their everyday lives, at the workplace and in the home. At Mobileye, our technologies power more than 230 million vehicles worldwide and have helped shape the future of autonomous mobility. With teams around the world, we continue to innovate at the forefront of autonomous systems, advancing the next generation of Physical AI for real life. Your Role We’re looking for a resourceful junior engineer to join our embedded team, combining firmware development with hands-on robot integration. You’ll develop bare-metal firmware in C for STM32-based robotic systems, taking on focused projects in peripheral interfaces, communications, sensing, and diagnostics. Working alongside experienced engineers, you’ll learn to translate requirements into tested firmware and follow your work through integration on the robot. As the team’s first responder for robot issues in the lab, you’ll also investigate unexpected behavior, run targeted tests, and identify which subsystem needs attention. You’ll resolve embedded issues within your scope and provide clear findings to electrical, mechanical, or other engineering teams when their expertise is needed. This direct exposure to robot behavior will inform your development work, helping you build more useful diagnostics and reliable firmware. Our workflow makes extensive use of AI development tools. We’re looking for someone who learns quickly, asks good questions, and can turn tool-generated code into a solution they understand and have verified on hardware.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain bare-metal C firmware for STM32-based robotic subsystems.
- Implement peripheral interfaces, communication functions, monitoring features, and diagnostics with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Take assigned firmware projects from requirements through implementation, review, and hardware validation.
- Use AI tools throughout development to explore solutions, generate code, and build tests, applying engineering judgment to verify the results.
- Lead the initial investigation of robot issues in the lab, collecting logs, reproducing failures, and using targeted measurements to isolate the affected subsystem.
- Address firmware issues within your scope and coordinate clear handoffs for electronics, mechanical, and complex system faults.
- Verify fixes on the robot and turn recurring problems into improved firmware, self-tests, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Collaborate with embedded, electrical, mechanical, and motion-control engineers throughout development and integration.
Requirements
- Practical experience developing embedded C software for microcontrollers through professional work, military service, or substantial personal projects.
- Ability to understand, modify, and debug C code, including code generated by AI tools.
- Basic understanding of microcontroller peripherals, interrupts, timers, and communication interfaces such as UART, SPI, I²C, and CAN.
- A structured approach to problem-solving and the curiosity to investigate how software and hardware interact.
- Familiarity with schematics, datasheets, and basic electronic measurements.
- Effective use of AI tools for technical work, with a habit of checking assumptions and validating results.
- Clear communication, initiative, and a strong desire to develop as an embedded engineer.
- We value demonstrated ability and practical experience more than formal credentials. An engineering degree is welcome but not required. This is a full-time junior position, not a student role.
