TailWind is seeking a Sales Engineer to join out team. A successful candidate must have prior experience with structured cabling and ability to travel, along with BICSI, RCDD or BICSI Tech certification. Project Management and Field Technician experience is helpful in this role.
Candidates will be considered from the following states: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Iowa, Florida, North Carolina, Texas, or Tennessee.
The Sales Engineer (SE) position involves a mix of technical, communication, and organizational skills. The SE bridges the gap between technical expertise and effective sales strategies, ensuring successful solution selling and client satisfaction. The SE works closely with our sales team, building client relationships, engaging in discovery to gain greater understanding of client objectives, providing technical and industry expertise, matching client requirements to proposed solutions that align with TailWind’s products and services, and helping to close deals. The SE will have responsibility for assisting with developing a quality control program to enhance TailWind’s ability to consistently provide a high level of service that meets our clients’ objectives and standards. The SE will also assist with developing and conducting internal training to enhance the technical knowledge and understanding of our teams.
Essential Functions
- Review quote requests for completeness of required details and collaborate closely with clients, vendors, suppliers and internal stakeholders in order to compile the necessary information to ensure clear, accurate and timely scopes of work, quotes, and change orders.
- Act as an advisor in collaboration with the sales team to recommend solutions and scope modifications that meet client objectives.
- Prepare solutions, quotes, statements of work, change orders, and technical and presentation documents that align with client expectations and TailWind’s service delivery capabilities.
- Develop and lead presentations on technical concepts relevant to client’s environment, such as solution scope, size, and business case.
- Utilize and further develop existing price and quoting guidelines to be consistent with TailWind’s contractual obligations and our sales and financial objectives and goals.
- Maintain thorough and up-to-date information in TailWind systems, including updating the quote database to track quotes from client request to solution delivery.
- Assist with preparing responses to client RFQ/RFP/RFIs.
- Develop a quality control program in conjunction with Vendor Management and Operations.
- Assist with developing and conducting internal training to enhance the technical knowledge and understanding of our teams.
- Provide technical and industry expertise to Sales, Engineering, and Operations team members.
- Assist with documenting processes, procedures, best practices, installation guides, quote tools, and more.
- Identify process improvement and efficiencies within the department.
- Navigate efficiently within Microsoft Suite and PDF editing tools, Visio, Teams, and TailWind’s other systems.
- Exhibit professionalism, a strong work ethic and a commitment to integrity in all engagements.
- Occasional travel.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Pre Sales Engineer.
- Minimum 1 year of experience estimating and drafting proposals for large scale national ICT deployments, and large structured cabling projects.
- Experience as an onsite project manager or field technician on structured cabling projects.
- Broad knowledge across the IT infrastructure sector.
- BICSI RCDD or BICSI TECH certification
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build rapport and credibility quickly, to articulate a value proposition, and to explain technical products to non-technical audiences.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to multi-task, take initiative, manage time, and timely follow through on assigned tasks.
- Proven ability to build relationships and work professionally with clients, vendors, suppliers, and colleagues.
- Exceptional attention to detail and technical documentation skills
- Planning, organization, and implementation skills.
- Self-starter with a proven ability to work independently and on a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and PDF editing tools.
