Accountabilities
• Own the end-to-end design of global ecommerce experiences, including product detail pages, category and collection pages, search and discovery, cart, checkout, and post-purchase journeys.
• Establish UX patterns, interaction standards, and design-quality expectations that guide product managers and engineers.
• Use analytics, behavioral data, session recordings, research, and merchandising insights to identify customer friction and define actionable design opportunities.
• Partner with product and analytics teams to develop and prioritize experimentation roadmaps, design test variants, establish success criteria, and evaluate outcomes objectively.
• Extend and maintain the commerce design system by creating reusable components, documenting usage standards, and reducing unnecessary one-off patterns.
• Collaborate directly with front-end engineers on specifications, handoff, implementation, and design quality assurance, maintaining accountability for the final shipped experience.
• Design within the capabilities and constraints of Shopify and make thoughtful trade-offs between ideal solutions, technical feasibility, business value, and delivery timing.
• Bring design expertise into product scoping and roadmap discussions early, helping teams balance sequencing, feasibility, customer impact, and business priorities.
• Conduct focused user research and usability testing to validate concepts and guide design decisions.
• Strengthen the broader design practice through thoughtful critique, mentorship, collaboration, and hands-on example.
Requirements
• 7+ years of product or UX design experience, with substantial and demonstrable ecommerce experience, ideally within direct-to-consumer, consumer hardware, or subscription commerce environments.
• Proven track record of leading significant design initiatives as a senior individual contributor, including setting direction, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and raising design quality.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating ecommerce expertise across product pages, discovery and comparison experiences, cart, checkout, and related customer journeys, with clear evidence of reasoning, constraints, and measurable outcomes.
• Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including component libraries, variables, and scalable design systems.
• Experience with AI-assisted design tools and the judgment to distinguish meaningful productivity gains from low-quality or superficial outputs.
• Comfortable using analytics and behavioral platforms such as GA4, FullStory, or comparable tools to investigate user behavior, develop hypotheses, and support design recommendations with data.
• Strong familiarity with Shopify or comparable ecommerce platforms, including their UX constraints, themes, applications, integrations, and checkout limitations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present recommendations, explain trade-offs, communicate risks, and influence executive-level stakeholders.
• Experience working collaboratively with product managers, engineers, analytics teams, ecommerce specialists, and brand stakeholders.
• Exposure to conversational commerce, AI-assisted shopping, product finders, guided-selling experiences, or related emerging ecommerce technologies is preferred.
• Experience designing connected web and mobile experiences rather than treating each platform as an isolated product.
• Strong problem-solving, strategic-thinking, and decision-making abilities, with a practical approach to balancing customer needs, business objectives, and technical constraints.
Benefits
• Competitive annual compensation of approximately $135,000–$150,000, with actual compensation determined by relevant factors.
• Fully remote work opportunity within the United States.
• Opportunity to work on high-visibility ecommerce experiences for an innovative wellness technology business.
• Significant ownership over product design direction, experimentation, and the overall digital shopping experience.
• Collaborative environment with close partnerships across product, engineering, analytics, ecommerce, and brand functions.
• Opportunity to influence and elevate design systems, processes, and design quality across the organization.
• Exposure to emerging technologies, including AI-assisted design and AI-enabled shopping experiences.
• Opportunities to contribute to innovative, customer-focused digital experiences across web and connected product ecosystems.
