Full description

We are looking for a hands-on Business Intelligence Manager to lead a team of five experienced analytics specialists, turning customer behaviour data into better service journeys. Combining technical leadership with hands-on analysis, you will shape the team’s analytical strategy, develop scalable solutions, and help colleagues make better decisions for customers and members.

This is a critical role within the Event & Service Journey team. You will lead a diverse portfolio of analytical work and collaborate with business, data, engineering, governance, and risk teams to embed solutions safely and effectively across the Society.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our Swindon, London or Glasgow office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

Service Journey Orchestration

You will lead an inclusive, high-performing team of analytics specialists, setting clear priorities while supporting performance, wellbeing and career development. You'll define the analytical direction for the Event & Service Journey capability, ensuring the team's work is aligned to customer, member and business priorities.

Working closely with the team, you'll coach and develop colleagues to deliver high-quality analytical outputs while maintaining modern skills, techniques and professional standards. You'll also remain hands-on, building and maintaining analytical solutions using Python, SQL and GitHub.

As the technical lead, you'll establish standards for documentation, reference implementations and reusable assets, sharing best practice across the wider Event & Service Journey Communications capability. You'll collaborate with governance, risk, security, privacy and architecture colleagues to ensure solutions meet all required controls and standards.

You'll continually challenge existing approaches, identifying opportunities to improve how we work and taking those ideas through delivery to measurable value realisation.

What success looks like:

Your analytical outputs will inform Service Journey Orchestration decisions, helping teams focus on the highest-value opportunities while measuring effectiveness. Users will have timely access to trusted analytics, and your recommendations will deliver measurable improvements in customer and member outcomes, journey effectiveness and business value.

You'll ensure the team balances competing priorities effectively, providing stakeholders with clear and realistic delivery expectations. Proofs of concept will generate robust evidence to support decision-making, with the strongest ideas progressing through a controlled route into production. You'll also ensure the value delivered through analytical recommendations is evidenced, tracked and clearly communicated.

About you

You are an experienced analytics leader who combines strong technical credibility with an inclusive, practical leadership style. You can lead a skilled team while remaining close to the work, moving confidently from discovery and prototyping through to robust, scalable analytical solutions.

You communicate complex ideas clearly, build trusted relationships and influence senior stakeholders across business and technology. Comfortable working in an evolving environment, you create clarity, set high technical standards and keep the needs of customers and members at the centre of decision-making.

Minimum skills and experience:

  • Proven experience developing and deploying production solutions using Python and SQL
  • Experience exploring new and unfamiliar data sources to create rich analytical outputs
  • Experience using GitHub (or equivalent) with version control, code reviews and testing practices
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts, influence senior audiences and challenge established thinking
  • Strong experience using customer, behavioural or operational data to improve journeys, communications or service outcomes
  • Experience designing and executing testing, evaluation and quality assurance approaches
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams, including product, engineering, data, security and risk stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex technical deliverables from design through to implementation
  • Proven experience leading, developing and performance-managing a skilled analytics team in a complex environment
  • Experience with Databricks or comparable cloud analytics and AI platforms

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
