Job Description
Timmons Group is currently seeking a Civil Engineering Project Manager to join our Energy & Renewables Group located in our Plano, TX office location. This position will be specifically for our solar team.
Projects in this group focus on land development for utility solar projects around the country. A typical scope on a project includes grading, road design, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design, erosion and sediment control design and field reconnaissance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
- Serve as primary point of contact for the client and design/build team, leading pre-start, progress, and review meetings throughout the 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC design phases.
- Manage overall project scope, schedule, and budget for utility-scale solar civil engineering projects, tracking deliverables against contracted milestones.
- Oversee and review the work of civil design staff (grading, drainage, roadway, erosion control, fencing, and stormwater design) to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to client specifications and agency standards.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (electrical, structural, geotechnical) and third-party consultants to ensure a complete, integrated design package at each milestone.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, identifying critical path activities, dependencies, and areas of schedule risk, and communicating status to clients and leadership.
- Manage project budgets and staffing allocations, monitoring fee burn against scope and proactively addressing scope changes or additional service requests.
- Review and respond to client and contractor comments across design submittals, ensuring timely incorporation of revisions from 30% through IFC issuance.
- Mentor, train, and support the professional development of junior and mid-level engineering staff, providing technical guidance and quality control review.
- Coordinate with permitting teams and regulatory agencies to support site plan approvals, NOI permitting, and stormwater management plan submissions.
- Identify and manage project risks, resolve design-related RFIs, and escalate issues affecting scope, schedule, or budget to senior leadership and clients as needed.
Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
- A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related degree, and professional registration (P.E.) in Texas, and/or one or more states in which Timmons Group conducts business
- 6+ years of experience in civil engineering related to land development civil engineering
- Must have a thorough understanding of project accounting and demonstrated ability to manage the schedule and budget for multiple projects at the same time
- Proven experience in client management, relationships and contract acquisition
- Has experience in marketing and supervision of the technical work of others
- Has working knowledge of CADD and or civil 3D software. (Civil 3D preferred), and office support software required to perform the essential functions of the position
