Senior Manager, Engineering

Position Summary

Dark Matter Technologies is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager, Engineering to lead multiple software engineering teams responsible for delivering innovative, scalable, and secure mortgage technology solutions.

The Senior Manager, Engineering provides organizational leadership across multiple product and platform teams, ensuring alignment between engineering execution, product strategy, and business objectives. This role is responsible for developing engineering leaders, improving organizational effectiveness, driving technical excellence, and ensuring successful delivery of strategic initiatives.

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills, deep software development experience, and a proven ability to manage complex technology portfolios while building high-performing engineering organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead multiple engineering teams responsible for product development, platform initiatives, and technology modernization efforts.
  • Develop and execute engineering strategies aligned with company objectives and product roadmaps.
  • Establish organizational goals, operating metrics, and performance expectations.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with senior business and technology leaders to prioritize investments and strategic initiatives.

People Leadership

  • Directly manage Engineers and senior technical leaders.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineering leadership talent.
  • Support recruiting strategies and hiring activities to ensure organizational growth and capability.
  • Foster employee engagement, retention, and professional development.

Delivery & Execution

  • Ensure successful execution of engineering roadmaps across multiple teams and product lines.
  • Monitor delivery commitments, resource allocation, dependencies, and project risks.
  • Drive predictable release schedules and continuous improvement of delivery processes.
  • Remove organizational obstacles that impact engineering productivity and effectiveness.
  • Measure and improve key engineering performance indicators.

Technical & Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with Architecture, Product Management, QA, DevOps, and Security leaders to define long-term technology strategies.
  • Guide modernization initiatives, cloud adoption, platform engineering efforts, and technical debt reduction programs.
  • Promote engineering best practices including automation, observability, security, scalability, and reliability.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend investments that improve business outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including management of managers and/or multiple engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise software development organizations.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, SDLC methodologies, Agile delivery models, and modern engineering practices.
  • Embraced AI and incorporated it into the SDLC.
  • Experience leading large-scale technology initiatives and cross-functional programs.
  • Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, and organizational leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and executive stakeholder management abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in mortgage technology, lending, fintech, banking, or regulated industries.
  • Experience with Microsoft .NET, C#, Angular, AWS, cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and platform modernization initiatives.
  • Experience managing geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Experience overseeing product development in SaaS or enterprise software organizations.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, AI-assisted development, and engineering productivity practices.

The selected candidate will be expected to work onsite from the Sharon, PA or Jacksonville, FL office 3 days per week.
