This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Oncology Data Analyst based in the United States.

This fully remote role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-quality cancer data management and oncology research within a specialized Cancer Center Registry environment.You will abstract, validate, analyze, and maintain comprehensive cancer registry data across a wide range of primary sites and clinical records.The role combines detailed medical data interpretation with rigorous coding, quality assurance, and regulatory reporting requirements.You will work with pathology reports, radiation oncology systems, electronic medical records, and specialized oncology databases.Your work will support accurate reporting to state and national cancer registries while helping maintain reliable longitudinal patient histories.The position requires strong independent judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex cases and competing priorities.You will also collaborate with clinical teams and external institutions to ensure complete and accurate follow-up information throughout the patient lifecycle.

Accountabilities:

  • Abstract comprehensive oncology cases into specialized cancer registry software using pathology reports, radiation oncology systems, EMRs, and other clinical documentation.
  • Apply defensive abstracting and approved editing processes to ensure accurate, complete, and error-free submissions to state and national cancer registries.
  • Identify and classify new, recurrent, and multiple primary cancer cases using reportable lists, computerized case-finding tools, and professional judgment.
  • Review medical records and clinical reports to determine and code demographics, primary site, histology, stage, treatment, recurrence patterns, and cause of death.
  • Apply current oncology coding and staging standards, including AJCC TNM manuals, ICD-O, SEER resources, Solid Tumor Rules, SSDI guidance, and other applicable reference materials.
  • Update treatment information following initial abstraction and conduct longitudinal follow-up research to maintain accurate patient histories throughout the patient's lifespan.
  • Research complex follow-up cases using internal records, healthcare institutions, physicians, and appropriate external resources to obtain missing clinical information.
  • Participate in quality reviews, cancer conferences, departmental meetings, and registry projects, providing accurate case information and presentations when requested.
  • Communicate with physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare organizations by phone, email, and fax to obtain necessary follow-up information.
  • Use Microsoft Office, internet-based applications, electronic reporting systems, and information systems for data entry, analysis, retrieval, and reporting.
  • Manage multiple cases and projects independently while meeting established deadlines, quality standards, and departmental objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required, along with current Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification through the National Cancer Registrars Association, or eligibility to obtain ODS certification within three years of employment under an approved NCRA pathway.
  • Eligible candidates may qualify through an NCRA-accredited Associate Degree Program in Cancer Registry Management, an associate degree or 60 college credits combined with an accredited certificate program, or an associate degree/60 college credits including qualifying anatomy and physiology coursework plus at least 1,950 hours of cancer registry experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards, state cancer registry reporting requirements, and Rapid Cancer Reporting System (RCRS) guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, oncology data abstraction, cancer staging, and registry coding practices.
  • Experience using computerized systems for data abstraction, data entry, analysis, reporting, and clinical information retrieval.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as internet-based applications and electronic reporting platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to obtain information effectively from clinicians, healthcare institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and judgment skills, particularly when handling complex or incomplete clinical information.
  • Proven ability to work independently and autonomously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize several projects and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a healthcare environment and handling sensitive clinical information with professionalism and discretion.
