Senior Platform / DevOps Engineer (m/f/d) — CI/CD, Build Systems & Developer Environments
Autonomous Teaming Solutions ATS GmbH Munich, Bavaria, Germany
Software Development · 51-200 employees
About the role
You will own and evolve the engineering platform, designing and building CI/CD pipelines and release workflows from scratch. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize developer environments and improve build performance and reliability.
What they look for
Requirements
The role requires proven experience in owning production CI/CD and build infrastructure, with strong proficiency in Linux, Python, Bash, and Docker. Candidates must be comfortable making architectural trade-offs and have experience working with compiled software environments like C++.
Full description
What we offer
- Work in an international, agile team creating the future of autonomous systems
- Take real technical ownership in an expanding and ambitious engineering organization
- Build the engineering infrastructure behind products in AI, robotics, and autonomy
- Work on technically challenging build, deployment, and developer-platform problems
- Enjoy a collaborative environment with significant freedom to shape how we build and ship software
Your mission
Own and evolve the engineering platform that our software teams depend on to build, test, integrate, and release reliably.
We are looking for someone who has built CI/CD and developer infrastructure — not only used or maintained existing pipelines.
You will make architectural decisions, identify bottlenecks, design solutions from first principles, and take responsibility for the reliability of the development and release workflow from local development through CI/CD to deployment.
You will:• Own the architecture and technical evolution of our CI/CD and build infrastructure
- Design and build pipelines and release workflows from scratch where needed
- Make technical decisions around caching, parallelization, artefacts, dependency management, environment promotion, and release automation
- Improve build performance, reproducibility, reliability, and developer feedback times
- Build and standardize reproducible developer and test environments
- Work with build systems such as Bazel and/or CMake across C++, Python, and other software stacks
- Develop internal tooling and automation in Python and Bash
- Debug complex build, integration, infrastructure, and deployment failures across the full system
- Support software delivery to cloud, on-premise, and embedded/edge environments
- Establish robust CI practices around secrets, quality gates, testing, observability, and release integrity
- Work directly with software, robotics, AI/ML, QA, and security engineers to remove friction from the engineering lifecycle
Your profile
- Proven experience owning production CI/CD, build infrastructure, developer platforms, or release engineering
- Evidence that you have designed or significantly rebuilt CI/CD systems, rather than only maintaining pipelines created by others
- Strong understanding of how source code moves from developer workstation → build → test → artefact → release → deployment
- Strong Linux, Git, Python and/or Bash experience
- Solid Docker experience and practical understanding of reproducible environments
- Experience with at least one major CI platform such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, Jenkins, or equivalent
- Experience debugging difficult build and deployment failures across multiple systems
- Comfortable making architectural trade-offs and defending technical decisions
- Experience working with compiled software environments, ideally including C++
- Able to operate independently and take a problem from unclear requirements to a reliable production solution
Nice to have
- Bazel or CMake ownership in a substantial codebase or monorepository
- Yocto or embedded Linux build systems
- Cross-compilation and embedded/edge deployment
- Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, Ansible, Nix, or similar
- CI/CD for C++ and hardware-connected products
- Pipeline optimization at scale
- Release engineering, artefact management, environment promotion, and deployment strategies
- Experience supporting robotics, automotive, aerospace, or other complex hardware/software products
What else
- Outside-the-box creativity with a blend of conceptual and systematic design thinking.
- High intrinsic motivation, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving mindset.
- Structured, methodical, and reliable execution, even under uncertainty.
- Humble, collaborative, and mission-driven — values collective success over ego.
- High ethical standards and disciplined work ethic.
- Extra-curricular achievements, leadership, or unique projects are a plus.
- NATO-aligned nationality or close ally citizenship is required.
