Job Description
The Laboratory Technical & Projects Manager is responsible for the technical leadership, setup of SGS Morocco’s Energy & Chemicals laboratory operations,
Will oversee Energy & Chemicals BU laboratory projects laboratory projects in country, ensuring high technical standards, method reliability, and operational excellence.
This position plays a central role in maintaining and enhancing ISO/IEC 17025 compliance, validating analytical methods and laboratory equipment, and developing local laboratory technical competencies in line with SGS Group requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical leadership for all laboratory activities within the Energy & Chemicals Business Unit in Morocco.
- Oversee and support gasoline testing and blending operations, and ensure the fast-track deployment of analytical methods, quality controls, and operational workflows.
- Oversee and support laboratory project development, including Jorf Lasfar Petroleum Products Lab and Transformer Oils & OCM Testing Lab.
- Act as the technical authority for ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems, method validation, equipment calibration/ verification, and laboratory best practices.
- Ensure proper technical governance of gasoline and petroleum product testing activities at Tanger Med.
- Develop, review, and implement SOPs, analytical methods, and quality control procedures.
- Lead technical training and competency development for laboratory chemists and technicians.
- Support procurement, installation, and validation of new laboratory equipment.
- Participate in technical meetings with clients, audits, and internal/external assessments.
- Contribute technical evaluations for new service development and expansion of analytical capabilities.
- Ensure all laboratory activities adhere to SGS HSE, Quality, Compliance, and Integrity standards.
- Ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction through prompt responses to inquiries, issues and concerns
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent scientific discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Oil & Gas laboratory management (TIC compagnies)
- Proven record in CFR Engine operations, calibration, and blending processes.
- Experience in ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and laboratory setup, project management.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of petroleum product testing (gasoline, gasoil, fuel oil, marine distillates and residual fuels, lubricants, transformer oils, LNG/LPG).
- Hands-on knowledge of CFR Octane/Cetane engines, AAS, ICP-OES, GC, UVF, HPLC, reformulyzer…etc.
- Proficiency in method validation, calibration, QA/QC, and data integrity principles.
- Familiarity with LIMS systems and laboratory instrumentation.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Leadership and mentoring capability.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is essential.
- Knowledge of French and Arabic is highly desirable and will be considered a strong asset.

Work Environment & Travel
