Full description

Your mission

We are looking for a Data Security Engineer to join our Data Governance & Security Team. You work on multiple projects helping our clients protect their data across their data platforms, Microsoft 365 and AI landscape. You take initiative and can work independently, but mostly operate in smaller and bigger teams, with coaching and support from your senior peers.

We work with Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Defender, Databricks and Microsoft Fabric. You don't need to master all of them yet: a first experience with part of the Microsoft security and compliance stack is welcome, and you'll build your skills on the job. You'll be surrounded by an experienced peer group, so you'll always have colleagues to spar with on the (technical) decisions you make

Key responsibilities

As a Data Security Engineer, you work hands-on to make sure our clients' data is discovered, classified and protected, so it's ready for analytics and AI in a secure and compliant way. Every mission is a collaboration with the customer, where we translate their security and compliance ambitions into concrete deliverables.

  • Run Data Security Assessments to map where sensitive data lives and how it is exposed
  • Design and implement Sensitivity Labels, Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Insider Risk Management policies in Microsoft Purview
  • Secure data platforms: access control and governance in Databricks Unity Catalog and Microsoft Fabric, together with Entra ID (Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management)
  • Help customers adopt AI safely: Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) for AI and data protection for Microsoft 365 Copilot and other AI tools
  • Translate regulatory requirements such as NIS2, GDPR and the EU AI Act into practical technical controls
  • Collaborate with the customer: understand their risks and needs, think along on the solution, and guide them through rollout and adoption
  • Use AI in your own work, and automate where you can (PowerShell, Graph API)

Your profile

  • 2+ years of experience in data security, information protection, cloud security or Microsoft 365 administration
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview (Information Protection, DLP) and/or Entra ID
  • Good understanding of Azure and the Microsoft cloud; a first experience with Databricks or Microsoft Fabric is a plus
  • Familiarity with scripting (PowerShell, Python is a plus)
  • Affinity with regulation and frameworks such as NIS2, GDPR, ISO 27001 or the EU AI Act
  • You use AI hands-on in your own work and are keen to do more with it
  • Certifications (e.g. SC-401, SC-300, SC-100) are a plus, or you are open to obtaining them
  • A team player and problem solver who takes initiative, communicates clearly, can explain security topics to both IT and business, and switches easily between projects
  • Enthusiastic about being part of a growing team & industry
  • You already reside in Belgium
  • You are fluent in English, and either Dutch or French

At element61, we hire for personality, drive, and a passion for learning, not just for what's on your CV. You do not need to tick every bullet above: your ambition and motivation matter most to us, and we'll support your growth Why us?

Our commitment to you• A market-leading compensation package, complemented by a wide range of extra-legal benefits and flexible options through our cafeteria plan and mobility budget

  • Serious investment in your training and personal development, with knowledge sharing days where we learn and grow together
  • Up-to-date technology: you always work on the latest releases, with access to a broad set of AI tools, from Claude to our own agentic engineering harness built around it, where our AI agent Ralph works alongside you as a colleague in every development
  • Room for initiative: entrepreneurship is encouraged
  • Plenty of team buildings and events together
