We provide these services across non-restricted environments as well as on-premise, highly secure deployments running advanced large language model technologies (such as Mistral AI) within the German national environment.
This role offers an opportunity to shape current and future AI & Analytics products operating in Germany to support digital sovereignty for our landscape.
This role is also available with reduced weekly hours and an adapted scope of tasks.

Your tasks and responsibilities
We are seeking a passionate and experienced DevOps Engineer to oversee and actively participate in the deployment, operation, and maintenance of AI & Analytics products and services, with a specialized focus on Generative AI / Agentic LLMs deployed strictly on secure, on-premise national environments. In this role, you will work hand-in-hand to support the AI & Data Analytics Product Owner by facilitating the continuous integration and delivery of AI releases, validating developed solutions, and ensuring strict adherence to all applicable DevOps practices.
Crucially, you will manage compliance with IT-Grundschutz and other German national security requirements. Working in close alignment with the Security Office, you will ensure our infrastructure and deployments adequately adapt to stringent security dictates. You will manage necessary infrastructure improvements and contribute to our internal Communities of Practice. Your expertise in established on-premise environments (e.g., OpenShift, standard Kubernetes, Docker, Podman) will be fundamental for navigating the complex security landscape and for ensuring the German-national and European digital sovereignty of AI solutions by Airbus Defence and Space.
- Design, deploy, and administer AI and analytics applications via robust CI/CD pipelines to automate software delivery within restricted on-premise networks.
- Ensure continuous availability, performance, and monitoring of local generative AI applications hosted on OpenShift and Kubernetes environments.
- Facilitate automated workflows and tools for development teams and the AI & Data Analytics Product Owner to streamline application delivery.
- Interface with the Security Office to align operational workflows and infrastructure with BSI IT-Grundschutz standards and national security requirements.
- Create clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, runbooks, and standard operating procedures to maintain continuous audit readiness.
- Participate in incident response and refine disaster recovery strategies to maximize resilience in air-gapped setups.
- Conduct technical evaluations and proof-of-concept testing for emerging technologies, including container orchestration and GPU serverless runtimes.
- Monitor and optimize resource usage across on-premise infrastructure, specifically for high-demand GPU hardware.
Desired skills and qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity (specializing in Distributed Systems, MLOps, or DevSecOps), Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least three years of experience in DevOps and continuous delivery practices.
- Strong experience in containerization and orchestration, specifically with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, or Podman.
- Hands-on knowledge of automated CI/CD tooling (such as Jenkins or GitLab CI) and monitoring stacks (such as Prometheus or Grafana).
- Familiarity with the AI/ML lifecycle, local AI model serving (such as GPU resource management or vLLM), and scripting languages (such as Python, Bash, or Go).
- Practical understanding of BSI IT-Grundschutz standards, DevSecOps principles, and security controls for air-gapped environments.
- Strong collaborative, problem-solving, and communication skills for working effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and auditors.
