Who is Quantium?

Quantium is a world leader in data science and artificial intelligence. Established in Australia in 2002, Quantium is a global team of more than 1,200 people across 14 locations with a unique blend of capabilities across product and consulting services to help businesses unlock value from data and analytics. Quantium partners with the world's largest corporations to forge a better, more intelligent world.

As a Lead AI Security Engineer, you will own how our AI and data science solutions are developed, deployed and operated securely, setting the technical direction and standards that shape security practice across the organisation. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role combining deep expertise in modern AI and machine learning systems with security engineering craft, and the influence to guide teams, mentor engineers, and shape how Quantium adopts new AI technologies safely and at pace.

You will work closely with data science, engineering, application security and security architecture teams to embed security throughout the AI and ML lifecycle, while acting as the go-to authority on emerging threats associated with foundation models, agentic systems and other rapidly evolving AI capabilities.

How will you make an impact?

  • Set the standard: Define and own the security strategy, frameworks and standards across the AI and machine learning lifecycle, covering risks such as prompt injection, data poisoning, model theft and adversarial inputs.
  • Lead through influence: Guide and mentor engineers and data scientists on secure AI practices, building security capability and judgement across the wider technical community.
  • Threat model at scale: Lead threat modelling of AI products, foundation models, agentic frameworks, MCP integrations and other emerging capabilities, translating complex risks into clear, pragmatic mitigations.
  • Partner across the business: Act as the senior technical partner to data science, engineering, application security and security architecture teams, embedding security into platforms, pipelines and development workflows.
  • Shape technology adoption: Evaluate emerging AI technologies, tools and SaaS platforms, advising leadership on adoption decisions and the broader security roadmap.
  • Govern and respond: Monitor evolving AI threats, shape policy and governance, and lead incident response involving AI and machine learning systems.

The superpowers you’ll be bringing to the team:

  • Deep technical expertise: Extensive hands-on security engineering experience across AI, machine learning, application security or cloud-native environments, with a track record of leading complex technical initiatives.
  • AI systems mastery: Strong understanding of modern AI systems, including generative AI, foundation models, agentic architectures and machine learning lifecycles.
  • Risk expertise: Proven experience identifying and mitigating AI-specific risks such as prompt injection, data leakage, model manipulation, poisoning and adversarial attacks.
  • Advanced threat modelling: Strong track record of turning complex, ambiguous risks into pragmatic technical controls, and setting the approach others follow.
  • Leadership and influence: Experience mentoring and developing engineers, and the ability to partner effectively with and influence senior stakeholders across engineering, data science and security.
  • Sound judgement: Curiosity, sound judgement and clear communication skills, with the ability to assess emerging technologies and influence both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels.

Remember – you might not tick all the boxes, but don’t let that from stopping you applying. We’re more interested in how you work, your ability to solve problems and think big.
