Role Description

We are looking for a Network Design and Systems Integration Engineer. You will be part of a distributed team of like-minded professionals whose day-to-day job is to support our broadband solutions rollout, from early pre-sales engagements with potential customers through production deployment.

You will report to the Director, Broadband System Integration. You will be required to work on key customer account(s) in North American time zones.

Location

Remote – this position is 100% Remote anywhere in Canada and occasional travel is required (up to 50%)

What you will be doing:

  • Own the design, integration, and testing of broadband access systems - turning architecture drawings into working IP network solutions and detailed customer installation and integration plans.
  • Act as the key technical liaison on customer projects: communicate solution requirements to internal teams and clients, provide clear technical direction, and take ownership of tasks end-to-end.
  • Support client lab integration, testing, qualification, field trials, and production deployments of our access network platform; train clients on system operation and troubleshooting.
  • Test new software and hardware, and report and track defects to engineering.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support - diagnosing and resolving customer issues in a timely manner, escalating through Harmonic's 24/7 Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as needed.

What you should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience integrating, testing, or operating networks in an internet service provider or telecommunications environment.
  • Understanding of service provider network and service design is a plus.
  • Strong expertise in IP routing (BGP, OSPF), Layer 2 technologies (VLAN/802.1Q, QinQ, LACP, MSTP), network overlays (VXLAN, MPLS), IP multicast (IGMP, PIM), and vBNG functions (subscriber management, PPPoE/IPoE, QoS enforcement), including design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong Linux networking skills and the ability to troubleshoot routing, interfaces, packet captures, firewalls, tunnels, timing, and performance issues.
  • Experience with Wireshark or equivalent tools for packet and protocol analysis.
  • Knowledge of PON technologies and BBF network architecture standards (e.g., TR-101, TR-156, TR-178) is a plus; familiarity with the OMCI protocol (ITU-T G.988) is a nice-to-have bonus.
  • Experience with cloud-based (Kubernetes) networking is a plus.
  • Ability to understand technical documentation, including network protocol standards and RFCs, software and hardware configuration guides, schematics, work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Ability to develop and present technical solutions to customers and internal teams.
  • Experience in pre-sales technical support, including product demonstrations and feasibility analysis, is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Business-level fluency in English, written and verbal, is a must.

Travel

  • Travel to customer labs or deployment sites for integration, testing, or investigation purposes, frequency varies and may reach up to 50%.
  • Occasional travel to Harmonic corporate offices for training.

Pay & Benefits -

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between CAD 105,000 - CAD 120,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market, location, and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process.
