Overview At Microsoft, we are developing technologies that will revolutionize how people interact with each other and their environments. The CoreAI organization builds the end-to-end AI stack and we are looking to welcome a new senior product designer. For this role, we're looking for a creator with expertise in command line-style design, a passion for experimenting with emerging AI interaction patterns, and enough engineering fluency to collaborate deeply with developers as you design agentic experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with PM, Engineering, Research and Data Science partners to define and deliver product experiences from concept through launch
  • Partners with engineers throughout implementation, refining interactions, validating quality, and ensuring design intent is realized in the final product
  • Apply working knowledge of front-end technologies, developer tooling, and modern prototyping approaches to accelerate exploration, improve collaboration, and inform design decisions.
  • Navigate ambiguity and help shape product direction where customer needs, UX patterns, and technology capabilities are still emerging
  • Rapidly explore emerging AI capabilities through prototyping, experimentation, and hands-on making to validate concepts and uncover new user experience opportunities.
  • Produce design artifacts across fidelities (e.g., user flows, wireframes, journey maps, prototypes, high-fidelity visuals, redlines) using Figma, Vercel, and other AI-powered prototyping tools
  • Contributes to use and adoption of design systems, patterns, and guidelines to ensure scalable and consistent experiences
  • Support and collaborate with teammates, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented culture
  • Translate user insights and feedback into design solutions, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity
  • Creates clarity for other members of the team while mentoring the team's newer members.

Qualifications Required/Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, HCI, UX, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years of experience in product or service design • OR Master’s degree in related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design 
  • OR equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications  

  • 1+ years experience applying AI domain knowledge (including generative AI and AI agents) to real-world product or service design, with an understanding of agentic experiences, their constraints, and how to integrate them seamlessly into user experiences
  • 3+ years technical engineering experience and familiar with HTML, CSS, JS/TS, Python and comfortable with React and/or Web Components
  • 5+ years experience in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, with examples of high-quality design artifacts produced (e.g., diagrams, wireframes, mockups)
  • 3+ years of end-to-end design process experience, including shipping products or delivering services to customers
  • 3+ years of experience contributing to or maintaining a design system
  • 4+ years of experience in strong collaboration skills, with demonstrated ability to work across disciplines (Design, PM, Engineering, Research)

Product Design IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
