Full description

MTSI is currently seeking to hire a Principal Solutions Architect to join the team in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Note, this role is 100% onsite.

About the Program:

The Missile Defense Agency is architecting, building, and securing its Next Generation Environment (NGE)—a secure, resilient, and highly flexible hybrid, multi-cloud ecosystem designed to support national security and warfighting objectives for decades to come.

While the NGE delivers world-class infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and on-premises VMware Cloud Foundation, the true measure of sustained mission success depends on the continuous onboarding, modernization, and operational lifecycle alignment of the Agency’s mission applications. We are seeking a visionary Lead Systems Integrator, ITSM & Portfolio Modernization Architect to serve as a trusted Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) advisor directly supporting the Government Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and NGE leadership in establishing this persistent bridge to the future.

Position Summary

In this high-visibility, strategic role, you will govern the technical pathway that guides mission system owners out of legacy architectures and into the secure, zero-trust-aligned NGE ecosystem. Rather than managing a one-time migration, you will institutionalize a repeatable System Owner Engagement Methodology, a long-term Application Rationalization & Modernization Roadmap, and an advanced, automated ITSM service delivery architecture.

You will serve as the principal technical and strategic liaison, translating complex, high-level Government leadership requirements into actionable engineering solutions executed by integration contractors and vendors, ensuring that modernized systems are both architecturally sound and operationally seamless.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and lead the persistent technical engagement framework. Direct technical workshops, manage onboarding pipelines, and guide application teams through the complete NGE lifecycle from initial discovery to active operations.
  • Design and execute an objective, continuous application rationalization methodology to evaluate application technical debt, modernization costs, and target architecture suitability.
  • Architect the seamless operational integration of onboarding workloads into enterprise ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, Helix). Modernize change enablement, establish automated CMDB discovery, and align applications with enterprise Service Catalogs.
  • Author and govern the enterprise Portfolio Modernization Roadmap. Build repeatable system onboarding playbooks, evolutionary migration
  • Collaborate with NGE domain architects to ensure all onboarding workloads are structurally modified to consume centralized enterprise services, including ICAM (federated authentication/ABAC), network micro-segmentation, and data tagging.
  • Provide the Government CTO and senior program leadership with data-driven decision frameworks, portfolio status visualizations, service transition velocity metrics, and mitigation strategies for technical hurdles
  • Serve as a key advisor to Architecture Review Boards (ARBs) and Transition Review Boards (TRBs), validating that onboarding applications successfully pass all performance, security, and ITSM gates.

The position requires deep technical knowledge, systems engineering expertise, and practical consulting experience across the following functional integration areas:

  • Automated Discovery & CMDB: Deep experience utilizing discovery tools (AWS Application Discovery, Azure Migrate, VMware Aria) to populate Configuration Management Databases (CMDB), mapping complex multi-tier application dependencies, and aligning with Common Service Data Models (CSDM).
  • Modern ITSM Architecture: Hands-on architectural understanding of enterprise ITSM platforms (ServiceNow, Remedy/Helix), ITIL 4 service value chains, and integrating DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines with automated change-approval gates.
  • Modernization & Refactoring: Fluency in cloud-native design patterns, containerization/Kubernetes viability, microservices transition, and re-architecting applications to consume centralized Zero Trust identities (SAML/OIDC/OAuth).

Required Education, Experience, & Security

  • Education & Experience: BS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or related technical discipline with 12 years of progressive integration experience (or Master's with 10 years).
  • Modernization & Operational Experience: Minimum of 6 years leading enterprise-scale workload transitions and application modernization efforts, inclusive of integrating systems into enterprise ITSM/ITIL operational frameworks.
  • Technical Fluency: Deep architectural knowledge of AWS, Azure, on-premises VMware (VCF/NSX), and enterprise ITSM tools.
  • Clearance & DoD Compliance: Must currently possess an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (TS/SCI). Must meet DoD 8140/8570 requirements for IAM III or IASAE II (active CISSP required).

Highly Desired Credentials

  • ITSM / Agile: ITIL 4 Managing Professional, ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS), or SAFe Program Consultant (SPC).
  • Cloud: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
  • Background: Prior experience in a SETA or A&AS advisory role, directly guiding Government Directors, PMs, or CTOs through enterprise-scale change management.

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $130,000/year to $190,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. This posting will be renewed periodically until the position is filled.
