Full description

Connexus Hub Inc. is a woman-owned small business that supports federal agencies with professional and technical services. We are hiring a mid-level Technical Writer and Editor for a federal corrections training modernization program.

You will own the editorial standard for the program. A team of instructional designers, a graphic designer, and an accessibility tester will produce a portfolio of courses, and you are the person who makes the written products consistent, correct, and ready for a federal customer who reviews to a zero-corrections standard. This is a deliberately part-time role of roughly half time, because the editorial standard works best as a single-owner artifact rather than a task spread across six designers. The work is fully remote and this position is contingent on contract award.

What you will do

  • Plan, manage, and coordinate documentation across the full project lifecycle.
  • Write, edit, and rewrite complex technical material, including lesson plans, facilitator and participant guides, systems and program documentation, user manuals, and reports.
  • Collect and interpret technical data, working with subject matter experts to confirm accuracy.
  • Produce technical illustrations for training and presentations.
  • Ensure deliverables conform to industry standards and quality requirements, and manage document layout and production.
  • Translate complex information into clear, concise content for varied audiences.

What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, technical communication, journalism, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of technical writing and editing, including documentation produced for review and formal acceptance by a customer.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold a single editorial standard across products written by multiple authors.
  • Strong working command of document layout and production in standard productivity software.
  • Availability during core hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday, within an agreed part-time schedule.

What helps

  • Training or curriculum documentation: lesson plans, facilitator guides, participant materials, job aids.
  • Corrections, law enforcement, or public safety subject matter.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 Level AA as they apply to documents.
  • Experience on a federal contract with a documented comment-resolution cycle.

Details

  • Employment type: part time, approximately 975 hours in the base year, with continued part-time support anticipated in the option year. Overtime is not authorized on this program.
  • Location: fully remote from anywhere in the United States. No travel is required.
  • This position is contingent on award of the contract to Connexus Hub Inc. and on any background or suitability screening the customer requires.
