Job Summary
The QA Lab Technician II is responsible for performing test procedures on finished products and reporting findings. This role ensures compliance with product specifications, maintains testing records, and supports quality assurance initiatives to meet ISO9001 standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform established test procedures to measure physical and chemical characteristics of finished products (e.g., strength, roundness, gradation, durability, coating performance, retro-reflectivity)
- Analyze production and raw material samples; assign lot numbers and prepare retain samples
- Operate plant XRF safely and maintain radiation safety knowledge
- Maintain and calibrate test equipment; ensure certifications are current
- Identify off-spec production, quarantine non-conforming products, and maintain disposition records
- Prepare samples for outside labs and State DOT certifications; coordinate required certifications for MIL, AGB, GP, AASHTO, and TTB products
- Communicate with manufacturing leads to ensure quality parameters and assist with process improvements
- Aid in investigating customer complaints and returns; recommend corrective actions
- Maintain good housekeeping in QA lab and assist production floor as needed
- Participate in HSE activities and follow all safety protocols, including PPE requirements
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required; Associate Degree in Science preferred
- 3–5 years of QA lab experience in a manufacturing environment
- Forklift operations experience and/or certification preferred
- Basic computer skills (data entry, spreadsheets, email)
- Knowledge of ISO9001 standards and plant safety systems (Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout)
- Strong teamwork, organizational skills, and attention to detail
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs occasionally)
- Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and temperature variations
- PPE required: hard hat, safety-toe shoes, gloves, goggles, chemical protective clothing, hearing protection
