WordPress Developer

Overview

We are looking for a skilled WordPress Developer to support the development, enhancement, maintenance, and day-to-day operation of multiple WordPress websites. The developer will work closely with the Senior WordPress Engineer, Creative/UX team, Marketing, SEO, and Content teams to implement new website designs, develop new pages and components, maintain existing functionality, and resolve technical issues.

Responsibilities

WordPress Development

• Develop and maintain WordPress websites.
• Convert approved Figma/design files into responsive WordPress pages.
• Build and modify WordPress themes.
• Develop reusable page components and Gutenberg blocks.
• Configure and customize plugins.
• Develop custom WordPress functionality when required.
• Troubleshoot PHP and WordPress issues.
• Maintain existing websites and resolve defects.

Design Implementation

• Work with designers to understand Figma designs.
• Implement responsive desktop, tablet, and mobile layouts.
• Ensure accurate typography, spacing, colors, images, animations, and interactions.
• Identify implementation issues early.
• Maintain consistency with established design systems.

Website Maintenance

• Perform WordPress core updates.
• Update and maintain plugins and themes.
• Resolve compatibility issues.
• Implement website content changes where required.
• Implement redirects and basic SEO changes.
• Monitor broken links and website errors.
• Support website migrations and enhancements.

WP Engine

• Support the Senior Engineer in managing staging environments.
• Deploy website changes and test releases.
• Troubleshoot production issues.
• Support backups/restores.
• Investigate performance issues.
• Work with WP Engine support when required.

Performance

• Optimize page-load performance.
• Optimize images and media.
• Identify unnecessary plugins and scripts.
• Improve front-end performance.
• Support Core Web Vitals improvements.

Integrations

• Work with REST APIs.
• Implement forms and third-party integrations.
• Troubleshoot API and webhook issues.
• Support analytics and tracking implementations.

Quality Assurance

• Test websites across browsers and devices.
• Validate responsive behavior.
• Perform regression testing after changes.
• Test forms, links, integrations, and tracking.
• Verify changes in staging before production deployment

Qualifications

Technical skills - Must have:

• 5+ years of WordPress development experience.
• PHP.
• WordPress.
• HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript.
• MySQL.
• Responsive web development.
• WordPress themes and plugins.
• Gutenberg.
• REST APIs.
• Git.
• Basic WP Engine experience.
• Website debugging and troubleshooting.

Preferred:

• Advanced Custom Fields (ACF).
• Elementor.
• React.
• Bootstrap/Tailwind.
• WooCommerce.
• GA4.
• Google Search Console.
• Technical SEO.
• Cloudflare/CDN.
• CI/CD.
• Basic Linux knowledge.
