Opportunity Overview
The Innovation Lab is an advanced R&D team that is part of the Semiconductor Test Division at Teradyne. We have a dual charter to technically support the growth of the division and company:
- Create long term differentiated solutions for our core Semiconductor Test business by exploring new technologies and architectures to be applied against current and emerging key requirements for our customers.
- Working with our Business Development Office, develop differentiated solutions to new business opportunities that are relatively adjacent to our core business. These will generally enable new businesses within our existing customer base.
The Software Engineering Manager leads a team of software engineers developing advanced software solutions for optical vision, machine vision, inspection, metrology, and automated test systems. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and people development to deliver high-quality software products that support imaging, image processing, defect detection, alignment, and measurement applications.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers.
- Manage project priorities, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Drive the design, development, and deployment of software for optical vision and machine vision systems.
- Oversee development of image processing, defect detection, alignment, inspection, and metrology applications.
- Collaborate with optical, mechanical, electrical, systems, and product engineering teams to develop integrated solutions.
- Establish software development best practices, coding standards, and quality processes.
- Guide technical decisions related to software architecture, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to define requirements and deliver innovative solutions.
- Support product validation, manufacturing release, customer installations, and field issue resolution.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI and machine learning, for vision-based applications.

- BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of software development experience, including machine vision or image processing applications.
- 3+ years of engineering leadership or management experience.
- Experience with C++, C#, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, and software development methodologies.
- Experience developing software for cameras, optical instrumentation, inspection systems, or automated test equipment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Machine vision and image processing.
- Optical inspection and metrology systems.
- Defect detection, pattern recognition, and alignment algorithms.
- Camera and sensor integration.
- AI/ML applications for image analysis.
- Real-time software and high-throughput data processing.
- Semiconductor test, automated inspection, or advanced manufacturing applications.
- Customer-facing product development and technical leadership.
This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who can build and grow a high-performing software team while delivering innovative vision-based solutions from concept through production, working closely with optics, hardware, and systems engineering teams.
We are only considering candidates local to position location and are unable to provide relocation for this position.

Compensation: The base salary range for this role is $165,700 - $265,200. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
Incentive Plan: This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
