Full description
QA automation engineer
Gauge and Selenium test automation suite
Team: Quality Assurance
Contract: Permanent, Hybrid
Experience: 1 to 3 years in testing, manual or automated
Language: Fluent English required
Context
You join the quality assurance team to maintain and extend an automated end to end test suite built on Gauge, for executable specifications, and Selenium WebDriver, for browser control. The suite runs in GitLab CI on every release, acting both as the regression safety net and as the living documentation of expected product behaviour.
Responsibilities
- Write Gauge specifications from user stories and acceptance criteria, using reusable and parameterised steps that non technical readers can follow.
- Implement and maintain step implementations, Page Objects and Selenium locators as the interfaces evolve.
- Design and maintain test data and configuration files in YAML, and keep the GitLab CI pipelines green.
- Run campaigns on development, staging and pre production environments through Gauge environment profiles.
- Analyse execution reports, qualify each failure as an application defect, a test issue or environment instability, and raise clear reproducible bug tickets.
- Stabilise flaky tests through explicit waits, proper synchronisation and test data isolation.
- Take part in agile ceremonies, review test code and run exploratory testing on what is not yet automated.
Required skills
• Gauge: specifications, concepts, parameterised steps, tags and environment profiles. An equivalent BDD framework such as Cucumber, SpecFlow or Behave is accepted with a genuine appetite for Gauge.
• Selenium WebDriver: element location strategies, explicit waits and the Page Object pattern.
• Web fundamentals: HTML and the DOM, basic CSS, HTTP methods and status codes, browser developer tools.
• Programming: working level in the language of the suite, such as Java, JavaScript, Python or C#, enough to write clean step implementations.
• GitLab: branches, merge requests, simple conflict resolution, and GitLab CI pipelines described in YAML.
• Testing experience, manual or automated, is required, together with a solid grasp of test design: happy path and sad path coverage, negative cases, boundary values, error handling and regression strategy. A suite that only proves the nominal scenario proves very little.
• Defect managementwith Jira, Xray, TestRail or an equivalent, in an agile delivery context.
• Fluent English, written and spoken. Mandatory and non negotiable.English is the day to day working language for specifications, tickets, documentation and meetings, and it is assessed during the recruitment process.
Nice to have
ISTQB Foundation certification, API testing with Postman or REST Assured, Docker and Selenium Grid, SQL for test data preparation, performance or accessibility testing.
