Full description
Trumia is a new-generation E-Money and Payment Services financial services provider, licensed and regulated in the EU. The Institution has set out to provide its clients with customer-centric and innovative financial services. It offers both consumer wallets and corporate accounts, driven by state-of-the-art technology to make its financial services seamless and beneficial to its users.
We're looking for a Senior Database Administrator — someone who has spent the core of their career as a traditional DBA and has evolved into a cloud-native, automation-first operator.
This is a high-ownership & autonomous role: you'll be solely responsible for database architecture, reliability, and data safety across the organization, primarily on MySQL in AWS, with potential migration to PostgreSQL.
Responsibilities
- Act as the senior technical authority on database architecture, reliability, performance, and data integrity across the organization
- Own end-to-end administration of production MySQL (potentially PostgreSQL) fleets: replication topology, backup/recovery, upgrades, capacity planning, and performance tuning
- Design and evolve highly available AWS database architectures (RDS/Aurora Multi-AZ, cross-region replicas, failover strategies) with a bias toward resilience and simplicity
- Own backup and disaster recovery strategy end-to-end — design, automation, regular restore testing, and RTO/RPO documentation — and be accountable for data recoverability
- Lead complex database migrations (major version upgrades, engine changes, cloud migrations, large schema changes) with minimal to zero downtime
- Define the observability strategy for databases: build and maintain dashboards, custom metrics, and alerting in Datadog and Coralogix; set meaningful SLOs/SLIs
- Drive deep root-cause analysis on production database incidents, lead postmortems, and turn findings into durable fixes and runbooks
- Perform advanced query and index optimization, execution plan analysis, and proactive tuning at scale
- Set and enforce standards for schema design, data access patterns, and query review; act as a senior reviewer/gatekeeper for schema changes
- Drive automation of DBA workflows (provisioning, patching, failover drills, backup validation) using Terraform and scripting
- Own database security posture: encryption, IAM/least-privilege, credential rotation, audit logging, and compliance support (SOC 2, GDPR, etc.)
- Mentor other engineers on database best practices; be a go-to escalation point for the hardest database problems
- Participate in and help shape the on-call rotation for database incidents
- Influence technology choices and long-term data architecture strategy in partnership with engineering leadership
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on DBA experience with demonstrable depth in database internals
- Deep, expert-level administration experience with MySQL — replication (async/semi-sync/group replication), backup/recovery internals, InnoDB internals, performance tuning, troubleshooting complex production issues
- Several years running databases in AWS, including RDS/Aurora Multi-AZ, failover mechanics, read replicas, and cost/performance trade-offs between managed and self-hosted options
- Proven track record owning backup and DR strategy, including designing and executing real disaster recovery tests
- Track record leading major database migrations (version upgrades, engine/platform migrations, cloud migrations) with minimal downtime, including rollback planning
- Strong hands-on experience with monitoring/observability tooling (Datadog, Coralogix, CloudWatch, or equivalent) — designing metrics and alerting strategy
- Expert SQL skills: query optimization, indexing strategy, execution plan analysis at scale
- Scripting/automation skills (Python, Bash) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- Solid grasp of networking, security groups, IAM, and encryption as they apply to databases
- Demonstrated experience owning incidents end-to-end: detection, mitigation, RCA, and prevention
- Strong communication skills — able to explain database risk and trade-offs to both engineers and leadership
Benefits
- 24 vacation days annually
- 6 sick days without medical certificate
- Premium Health Insurance (coverage up to 5,000 EUR annually)
- Relocation package for international candidates
