Full description

We are currently looking for a Senior Cloud / DevOps Engineer (AWS) to strengthen the Cronos Europa team.

The role is hands-on: operating Kubernetes in production, building and maintaining the Argo workflows that the scientists depend on, managing the AWS estate, and supporting the research users who run analytical and pipeline workloads on the platform.

Location : Lisbon

Office presence :Minimum 3 days per week on site

Start : As soon as possible - at the latest early 2027

Duration : Long-term - likely up to two years

Responsabilities:

  • Design, deploy and operate containerised workloads on Amazon EKS and Kubernetes.
  • Maintain secure, reliable and up-to-date Kubernetes clusters in production.
  • Build and maintain workflow orchestration using Argo Workflows.
  • Ensure research pipelines are reliable, observable and easy to rerun.
  • Manage AWS compute, storage and database services, including EC2, S3, FSx, EFS, RDS and ECR.
  • Implement event-driven and serverless solutions using Lambda, EventBridge, SQS and SNS.
  • Apply IAM and AWS security best practices across the environment.
  • Support scientists and research users running analytical and pipeline workloads on the platform.
  • Automate recurring operational and user needs to reduce manual support.

Technical skills:

  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS, including EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, FSx, EFS, RDS, ECR and EventBridge.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Experience with Argo Workflows for workflow orchestration.
  • Good understanding of IAM, SQS, SNS and AWS native storage solutions.
  • Experience with event-driven and serverless architectures.
  • Experience with Posit Workbench is an advantage.
  • Experience with Nextflow, or a clear willingness to learn it, is an advantage.
  • Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical or research computing environments is a plus.

Profile :

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Cloud, DevOps or Platform Engineering.
  • Senior, hands-on profile with recent experience operating AWS and Kubernetes environments in production.
  • Ability to take ownership of an existing production platform and contribute quickly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex cloud and Kubernetes environments.
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work from the Lisbon office at least 3 days per week.
  • Availability to start as soon as possible, and no later than early 2027.
