Job Description

As a  Embedded Software Engineer, you will join our engineering team to support our activities within the clean energy and advanced technology sector. 

You will be responsible for the development, validation, and support of control system software used within advanced engineering applications. Working across software, controls, systems, and test engineering teams, you will contribute to software development, investigate controller performance, support test rigs and bench testing activities, and ensure requirements are captured and delivered throughout the product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Cell Voltage Monitoring software, including detailed design, coding, testing, and handover activities
  • Generate software lifecycle documentation and development process deliverables
  • Support component and subsystem bench testing activities
  • Support validation of air module systems, including flow meter algorithms and interface verification
  • Develop, validate, and support turbine Variable Guide Vane (VGV) control strategies
  • Support and maintain bench test equipment and test rig control systems
  • Investigate controller behaviour and software performance issues
  • Manage DFMEA actions and derive software requirements from engineering risk assessments
  • Capture, analyse, and elaborate software requirements for monitor lane and test rig control systems
  • Debug, test, and optimise software written in C
  • Work with and support the implementation of control algorithms developed in Simulink
  • Collaborate with systems, controls, software, and test engineers to deliver validated solutions

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Experience developing embedded or control system software
  • Proficiency in C programming and software debugging
  • Experience working with control algorithms and Simulink models
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle and software verification activities
  • Experience supporting test rigs, bench testing, or laboratory-based engineering programmes
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause investigation skills
  • Ability to manage and trace software requirements through development and testing
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience working within a software, controls, or systems engineering environment
  • Knowledge of software testing, validation, and integration processes

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Cell Voltage Monitoring systems
  • Knowledge of DFMEA and requirements derivation methodologies
  • Experience working with flow measurement systems or control valves
  • Familiarity with model-based development approaches
  • Experience within clean energy, automotive, aerospace, or industrial engineering sectors
  • Knowledge of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or bench validation activities
