Job Title: Senior Product Manager, PI System Location: Bangalore
Employment: Regular, full time, hybrid work arrangement Department: Product Management / Portfolio Reports To: Director of Product
The job
As a Senior Product Manager, AVEVA PI System, you will own the definition and delivery of customer-facing capabilities for one or more software products within the AVEVA PI System portfolio. You will own product discovery and delivery outcomes for a defined scope, including roadmap definition, prioritization, and ongoing lifecycle management—ensuring the product delivers measurable value to customers and contributes to AVEVA’s business objectives.
This role is execution-heavy and highly technical. You will translate strategy into detailed product requirements, partner with R&D to deliver high-quality outcomes, and ensure the voice of the customer is embedded into every phase of product development.
This role requires strong technical fluency and comfort operating in an agile delivery environment. You will represent the voice of the user in engineering forums, drive clarity through well-formed requirements and acceptance criteria, and create transparency into prioritization decisions and delivery progress.
As a senior individual contributor, you will demonstrate strong product management craft, influence without authority, and operational excellence. You will help raise the bar on how product decisions are made—using customer evidence, market insight, and data-driven metrics to guide prioritization and trade-offs.
In this role, you will also play a critical part in stakeholder engagement— responding to customer issues that impact product success. Success requires strong communication, comfort navigating ambiguity, and the ability to drive alignment across teams toward shared outcomes.
Main responsibilities
Product Execution & Delivery
- Opportunity Definition: Prepare and manage Opportunity Canvases and related Initiatives, defining objectives, value propositions, success measures, priorities, and delivery scope in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Backlog Ownership: Own the product backlog for your scope: intake, triage, refinement, prioritization, and readiness for development.
- Requirements & Scenarios: Translate user needs and cross-product scenarios into clear requirements (user stories, functional and non-functional requirements, acceptance criteria) that R&D can implement.
- Delivery Planning: Partner with R&D to define milestones, sequencing, and release plans; proactively manage risks, dependencies, and scope trade-offs.
- Technical Reviews: Participate in technical and development reviews; provide product input on implementation decisions to ensure usability, supportability, security, and scalability.
- Release Readiness: Drive product release strategy and readiness by coordinating engineering, documentation, support, services, marketing, and enablement activities.
- Outcome Validation: Ensure high-quality outcomes by defining success criteria, validating solutions (customer/field feedback), and driving iteration.
Customer & Internal Engagement
- Voice of the Customer: Serve as the trusted voice of the customer—ensuring product decisions are grounded in real user problems and that customer feedback is systematically incorporated.
- Internal Engagements: Represent the product in internal forums to provide clarity, alignment, and decision support across teams.
- Issue Resolution: Coordinate responses to escalated customer-facing or internal issues impacting product success; drive root-cause understanding and prioritization of fixes.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Portfolio Strategy Translation: Work closely with the Portfolio Director to understand portfolio strategy and investment priorities for the assigned area, and translate them into clear long-term direction and short-/mid-term execution plans (roadmap, sequencing, and quarterly objectives) aligned to delivery capacity and customer outcomes.
- Cross-Team Alignment: Collaborate with key stakeholders, including Portfolio/Product leadership, R&D, UX, Customer Success, Support, and other internal groups to align product initiatives with company and product strategies.
- Stakeholder Communication: Clearly present product strategy, roadmap, scope decisions, and progress updates to internal stakeholders; ensure shared understanding of goals, trade-offs, and timelines.
Team Development & Operational Excellence
- Operating Cadence: Establish and maintain strong product operating practices (e.g., roadmap reviews, backlog refinement, discovery cadence, release readiness) to enable predictable execution.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Lead through influence—aligning engineering, UX, and cross-functional stakeholders around shared outcomes.
- Quality & Responsiveness: Ensure high standards for product quality, usability, and customer impact; ensure responsiveness to user feedback via the feedback portal and other vehicles.
Skills
Product Management Excellence & Strategic Execution
- Ability to write high-quality requirements and acceptance criteria; comfortable decomposing ambiguous problems into executable increments.
- Experience collaborating day-to-day with engineering teams in agile development environments; confident in development reviews and backlog grooming.
- End-to-End Product Ownership: Demonstrated success owning products across discovery, delivery, launch, and iteration.
- Prioritization & Trade-Offs: Ability to manage competing priorities while balancing short-term and long-term investments.
- Outcome Orientation: Strong focus on measurable customer value and business impact (not just output).
- Cross-Functional Execution: Proven ability to work effectively with engineering, UX, marketing, sales, and customer success.
Customer & Market Focus
- Customer-Centric Mindset: Consistent practice of grounding decisions in customer needs and usage evidence.
Communication & Influence
- Clear Communication: Strong written and verbal skills to communicate roadmap, decisions, and trade-offs.
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to align diverse stakeholders and handle disagreement constructively.
- Storytelling: Ability to articulate value and rationale to different audiences.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to use metrics, analytics, and qualitative insights to guide decisions.
- Technical Fluency: Solid understanding of software development and product delivery practices; able to collaborate effectively with R&D.
- Product Lifecycle Understanding: Familiarity with ideation, MVP delivery, iteration, customer feedback loops, and end-of-life considerations.
Execution & Operational Excellence
- Organizational Skills: Strong planning and execution discipline; reliable follow-through.
- Continuous Improvement: Ability to inspect-and-adapt product practices to improve delivery, adoption, and customer outcomes.
Qualifications
- Typically 5+ years of product management experience; candidates with 3+ years may be considered depending on scope and demonstrated technical execution strength.
- Experience in industrial software, data/analytics platforms, or enterprise SaaS preferred.
- Customer support, customer success, services, or field experience with the PI System suite of products (or similar) is preferred.
