Senior Business Analyst – Energy
Location: Houston, Texas Employment Type: Contract Work Arrangement: Onsite
Role Summary
We are seeking a strong Business Analyst with experience analyzing business processes, gathering requirements, and preparing detailed process and solution documentation. The ideal candidate should have excellent stakeholder-management skills and preferably have experience in the energy, oil and gas, utilities, or commodity-trading domain.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with business and technology stakeholders to understand business needs, challenges, and objectives.
- Conduct workshops and interviews to gather and validate business and functional requirements.
- Analyze current-state processes and identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Develop current-state and future-state process maps, workflows, and operating procedures.
- Prepare Business Requirements Documents, Functional Requirements Documents, user stories, use cases, and process-design documents.
- Translate business requirements into clear specifications for technical and delivery teams.
- Coordinate with product owners, developers, architects, testing teams, and business users throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support solution design, testing, user acceptance testing, implementation, and change-management activities.
- Maintain requirements traceability and ensure that delivered solutions meet business expectations.
- Provide regular project updates and help resolve requirement-related issues.
Required Skills
- 4+ years of experience as a Business Analyst in technology or business-transformation projects.
- Strong experience in requirements gathering, business-process analysis, and process mapping.
- Experience creating process flows using tools such as Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, or similar platforms.
- Strong documentation skills, including BRDs, FRDs, user stories, use cases, functional specifications, and standard operating procedures.
- Experience working with both business and technical stakeholders.
- Good understanding of Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies.
- Experience supporting UAT, defect resolution, implementation, and process improvements.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work from the Houston office as required.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the energy, oil and gas, utilities, power, commodities, or energy-trading domain.
- Understanding of front-, middle-, or back-office energy processes.
- Experience with ETRM, ERP, CRM, workflow, or enterprise transformation projects.
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Visio, PowerPoint, and Excel.
