About the role
Design, develop, optimize, and maintain embedded software for automotive ECUs, including low-level microcontroller drivers and communication protocols. Test and debug software on target hardware, ensure compliance with automotive quality and safety standards, and maintain technical documentation.
What they look for
Requirements
Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or computer science field and 2–3 years of automotive embedded software development experience. Candidates should be proficient in C and C++, familiar with microcontrollers, RTOS, debugging tools, and version control or SDLC tools; bootloader development is an advantage.
Full description
An Embedded Software Engineer with 2-3 years of experience in the automotive domain is expected to design, develop, test, and maintain software for Electronic Control Units (ECUs) in vehicles, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Software Development: Design, develop, and optimize embedded software modules in Embedded C/C++.
- Hardware Interaction: Develop and integrate low-level drivers for microcontroller peripherals such as GPIOs, Timers, ADCs, PWM, I2C, SPI, CAN and UART.
- Communication Protocols: Implement and validate automotive communication protocols, including CAN, UDS (Unified Diagnostic Services)
- System Integration & Testing: Perform unit testing, integration testing, and debugging on target hardware, collaborating closely with hardware and validation teams.
- Compliance & Quality: Ensure software quality and compliance with automotive standards such as MISRA coding guidelines, ASPICE, and functional safety standards like ISO 26262.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and thorough technical documentation for software design, test plans, and release readiness.
Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience in embedded software development within the automotive industry.
- Programming Languages: Strong proficiency in C and C++ programming for embedded systems.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Experience with microcontrollers and microprocessors (e.g., ARM, NXP).
- Familiarity with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
- Knowledge of Bootloader development is an added advantage.
- Tools:
- Experience with debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analysers, gdb).
- Familiarity with SDLC tools (JIRA, GIT, SVN).
