Full description
We are X, bigly labs, Dis-Chem’s high-performance innovation hub; a place where bold ideas meet data, design, and radical customer focus to reimagine what healthcare can be.
Our mission is to power the future of healthcare by lowering costs, unlocking new possibilities, and improving access to healthcare for all South Africans. We do this through cutting-edge digital solutions that deliver smarter, more human, and truly patient-focused experiences. Here, your work is not limited to a whiteboard; it becomes real. It drives decisions, shapes experiences, and moves healthcare forward. We are driven by one big question: How do we use data and today’s technology to build breakthroughs to better health?
There’s only one question left: are you ready to make healthcare smarter, and actually mean it?
The Senior Analytics Engineer leads the design of the silver and gold layers and sets the modelling, testing and deployment standards the chapter builds to. The role owns the hardest models and the metric certification approach, guides junior and intermediate engineers, and anchors the SAP BW to Databricks migration on the analytics side. Gold is the product, and this role keeps it trustworthy.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR?
Minimum
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 or more years in analytics engineering, data engineering or advanced analytics, with production ownership.
- Expert SQL and dimensional modelling at scale.
- Production experience with a declarative transformation framework, including CDC and slowly changing dimensions: Lakeflow Declarative Pipelines or dbt.
- Git, CI/CD and deployment automation: pull requests, GitHub Actions, Databricks Asset Bundles or equivalent.
- Deep SAP knowledge: BW objects, and S/4HANA or Business Data Cloud, strong enough to lead source interpretation during the migration.
- Working Python: the unit-testing APIs and the chapter's pipeline framework are Python, and this role owns the testing standard.
- Experience setting standards or reviewing the work of other engineers.
Advantageous
- Unity Catalog governance: grants, masking, row filters, lineage.
- Unity Catalog semantic-layer curation: metric views with agent metadata, domains, Pages.
- Coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex run in parallel, with automated verification through tests and reconciliation, so their output is trustworthy at scale.
- Retail data, ideally pharmacy retail. Healthcare or financial services also count.
- A completed migration off a legacy warehouse.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING?
- Design the silver and gold layer structure with Lakeflow Declarative Pipelines and dimensional modelling so that the estate stays consistent as it grows.
- Own the metric certification approach across gold tables, Unity Catalog metric views and their agent metadata so that people and AI agents consume one certified definition per measure.
- Provide BI-ready views over metric views so that Power BI consumes certified measures without hand-written MEASURE() SQL.
- Own the reconciliation approach between Databricks and SAP BW during the migration so that sign-off is evidence-based.
- Set and maintain modelling, review and deployment standards so that quality does not depend on individuals.
WHO YOU ARE?
- Have a deep knowledge of the SAP-to-Databricks estate and how retail business processes turn into facts, dimensions and certified metrics.
- Ability to prioritises models by business value and understands the cost of a wrong number.
- Be able to explains trade-offs to technical and business audiences.
- Have ability to run multiple workstreams, unblocks others and manages stakeholder expectations.
- Able to learn new tools and methods as the platform evolves.
Our values show up in how we think, build, and make choices that make an impact. We are building a culture that drives progress; one that fixes friction, chases what changes, and owns the outcome. We design with tomorrow in mind, ask sharper questions, and answer them with care, urgency, and systems that scale.
Think you’ve got energy, curiosity, and guts? Come hold the space, make it matter, and own a breakthrough.
