Join Brain in Hand
At Brain in Hand, we're passionate about making the world more accessible and fairer for neurodivergent people and those experiencing mental health challenges.
Our combination of practical digital tools and human support helps people build confidence, achieve their goals and live more independently.
With over half our colleagues identifying as neurodivergent, we're proud to build our services with lived experience at their heart. Recently recognised as one of the Times Best Places to Work, we're a supportive, ambitious organisation where people can make a genuine difference.
About the opportunity
We're looking for a Senior iOS Engineer to own and evolve the iOS app that supports our users in the moments that matter. You'll be comfortable working in an AI-first engineering environment, routinely using tools such as Codex or Claude Code to accelerate development rather than building features from scratch. As our sole iOS specialist, you'll combine strong technical judgement with close collaboration across design, product and Android, and actively champion the needs of our neurodivergent users.
What you'll be doing
- Own the iOS application, shaping, implementing, testing and improving features while remaining accountable for quality.
- Using AI tools to help deliver accessible, reliable and performant Swift and SwiftUI experiences, critically reviewing and validating code.
- Collaborate closely with design, product and Android colleagues from early discovery and design through delivery, bringing user needs into decisions.
- Provide informal technical leadership across mobile, share constructive feedback and champion the needs and challenges of our users.
- Maintain performance, stability, testing, CI/CD and App Store release processes.
- Adapt and experiment as AI capabilities, team practices and technology evolve, while safeguarding privacy, security and maintainability.
What we're looking for
You'll probably have...
- Substantial commercial native iOS experience with Swift and SwiftUI (around five years as a guide), including ownership of production features.
- Established, hands-on experience routinely using AI tools such as Codex or Claude Code as a central part of software development, with the ability to assess and refine their output.
- Experience making sound architectural decisions and managing iOS CI/CD, TestFlight and App Store releases; confidence reading and reviewing Kotlin.
- Knowledge of modern iOS architecture, testing, accessibility, privacy, maintainability and Apple's Human Interface Guidelines.
- Experience in health, wellbeing or related technology would be an advantage.
You'll also be someone who...
- Enjoys autonomy, maximises the value of AI tools and takes responsibility for the outputs.
- Collaborates actively in discovery and design, shares work early and welcomes constructive challenge.
- Is curious, adaptable and keen to evolve working practices as the team and technology advance.
- Wants to understand the real experiences and challenges of our users and champion their needs throughout design and delivery.
Why join Brain in Hand?
- A 9-day working fortnight, with every second Friday focused on your wellbeing.
- Private Medical Insurance and a competitive pension.
- 33 days’ annual leave, including bank holidays.
- Flexible remote working, with planned in-person collaboration in Exeter or London.
- Learning and development opportunities and a supportive, values-led culture.
- The chance to influence a mission-led product and how we work.
Our commitment to inclusion
We believe diversity makes us stronger. We're proud to be a Disability Confident employer and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those with lived experience of neurodiversity or disability. If you need adjustments during recruitment, we'll be happy to support you.
