The Asian Centre for Digital Cultures (ACDC) at CoHASS, NTU, invites applications for two Research Engineer/ Senior Research Engineer positions. Working at the intersection of computation and the humanities, arts, and social sciences, the successful candidates will enable innovative research by providing technical support, methodological expertise, and collaborative capacity across the Centre’s research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support CoHASS researchers in exploring and applying digital methods and tools, including coding, empowering principal investigators to integrate digital tools into their projects, in partnership with other technical groups across NTU and Singapore
- Assist “ACDC methods lab” lead and co-lead in conducting regular academic events
- Provide training in selected digital methods and tools
- Support researchers in developing Web and mobile applications
- Support researchers in using cloud services for research and development
- Help with the ethical scraping, collection, cleaning, and structuring of diverse qualitative and quantitative datasets
- Develop and maintain the ACDC website and portal to effectively showcase ongoing projects and outputs
- Support researchers in writing the methods and technical sections of research proposals and publications
- Define and manage guidelines for best-practice software design and development and the effective management of risks and issues that affect scope, schedule and quality
- Maintain currency of contemporary and relevant sector-wide developments in software development relevant to ACDC and share with other members of the team
- Other duties, appropriate to this classification, as directed
Job Requirements:
- A Master’s degree in computer science, data science, information science, digital humanities
- Experience with social science/humanities/arts research methods
- Python coding skills including Pandas package, statistical or machine learning packages, access to cloud AI services
- Experience with cloud services and environments
- Experience with developing Web or mobile applications
- Demonstrated experience in supporting a high-quality service to users, including analysing problems and resolving problems related to research requirements, monitoring the status of services, proactively seeking service improvements to meet emerging areas of need
- Ability to pick up new methods and software packages by reading manuals and following online tutorials
- Open source development and management is highly valued, along with experience working in an agile software development environment
- Enthusiasm in exploring and learning new digital methods
