Full description

Parallel Wireless is reimagining mobile networks with innovative, energy-efficient Open RAN solutions. Join us as we lead the future of telecommunications, driving innovation through green and sustainable networks. Learn more about our mission, vision and values.

People come to work at Parallel Wireless because we are building the future of telecom. They stay because they are challenged and driven by an incredible product and team. We take pride in our commitment to employee development, and our culture fosters an atmosphere of empowerment, trust, respect, and communication.

Lead the outdoor (field) test activities for Parallel Wireless's wireless telecom and cloud-based 4G/5G ORAN solutions.

The work location is in Israel and combines hands-on testing at outdoor sites in the field with lab work and close collaboration with R&D, product and test engineers across Parallel Wireless sites.

As the senior engineer on the team, you'll own the outdoor test domain end-to-end — from defining the field test strategy and building the outdoor setups, through running drive and walk tests on live deployments, to analyzing RF/KPI results and driving issues to root cause with R&D. You will also mentor the team's junior test engineers and represent the outdoor test activity in front of customers during field trials and acceptance.

Job Responsibilities:

• Lead and own the outdoor/field test activities of the team: plan, schedule and execute drive tests, walk tests and field trials of Parallel Wireless 4G/5G ORAN products (radio units, DU/CU and core) in real-world outdoor deployments.

• Define the outdoor test strategy, test plans, test cases and acceptance criteria covering coverage, capacity, throughput, latency, mobility (handover/cell reselection), interference and KPI benchmarking against 3GPP and customer requirements.

• Design and build outdoor end-to-end test setups: site survey and selection, antenna and RF path, backhaul, power, GPS/timing, UE fleet and measurement tools.

• Execute field measurement campaigns with drive-test tools and scanners, and analyze RF and performance KPIs (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, throughput, BLER, latency, call/session drops, handover success rate).

• Analyze and debug UE, RAN and core logs collected in the field and resolve issues in outdoor setups (For Ex: UE/mobile issues, RF/antenna/fiber connectivity, backhaul, power and timing, etc.); isolate RF, baseband, configuration and software issues and drive them to root cause together with R&D.

• Analyze, reproduce and validate customer field-found defects and take part in customer trials and field acceptance tests.

• Produce clear field test reports and KPI summaries and present findings to R&D, product management and customers.

• Mentor and guide junior test engineers; review their test plans, setups and results.

• Suggest improvements and changes to the product in order to improve customer experience.

• Automation:

• Define requirements for automating field data collection, KPI post-processing and reporting

• Work with the Automation Infra engineers to integrate outdoor test results into the test framework

• Review and consolidate future automation requirements and enhancements for outdoor testing

Job Requirements:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in cellular (LTE / 5G NR) outdoor and field testing – drive testing, field trials or RF network optimization.

• Proven experience leading field test campaigns and coordinating cross-functional teams (R&D, field technicians, customers).

• Strong RF fundamentals: link budget, propagation, antennas, interference, coverage and capacity planning.

• Hands-on experience with drive-test tools and scanners (Ex: TEMS, Nemo, XCAL, Rohde & Schwarz ROMES/TSMx, PCTEL) and post-processing tools.

• Experience analyzing UE and eNB/gNB logs (Ex: QXDM/QCAT, Wireshark, vendor trace tools) and understanding of architecture and call flows.

• Understanding of 3GPP standards covering PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC, NAS, S1AP/NGAP and X2AP/XnAP protocols, including mobility procedures.

• Experience with RF test equipment (spectrum/network analyzers, power meters, attenuators) and lab tools (Ex: Azimuth, TM500, Amarisoft).

• Python and Shell scripting for log parsing and KPI analysis.

• Knowledge of handling and troubleshooting User Equipment (Mobiles), SIM installation, etc.

• Ability to work outdoors at remote sites, a valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally and abroad as needed.

• Experience in using test management and bug-tracking tools (Ex: JIRA).

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with ORAN architecture (O-RU, O-DU, O-CU) and multi-vendor interoperability testing.

• Experience with network planning and GIS tools (Ex: Atoll, Planet, Google Earth, QGIS).

• Experience working with mobile operators on field acceptance and Tier 1 trials.

• Experience with LAN/WAN, Routing protocols – L2 and L3, TCP/IP, QoS.

• Knowledge of Linux/UNIX-based platforms, Docker and Kubernetes.

• Knowledge of automation frameworks, preferably Pytest

Education: Bachelor degree in Electrical, Electronic Communications/Computer Science Engineering
