A Systems Analyst - Intern III will focus on engineering-related software services, including model ingestion, automated quantity extraction, plan conformance checks, and CI/CD automation. Leveraging PEPS ensures compliance with procurement regulations while enabling rapid onboarding of specialized talent.
TxDOT work to be accomplished:
Understands business objectives and problems, identifies alternative solutions, performs studies and cost/benefit analysis of alternatives. Analyzes user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing computer system: Confers with personnel of organizational units involved to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and learn specific input and output requirements, such as forms of data input, how data is to be summarized, and formats for reports. Writes detailed description of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer program. Reviews computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system.
1-3 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. The Systems Analyst Intern will support TxDOT's Digital Delivery and AI initiatives by analyzing business objectives, identifying automation opportunities, and assisting in rapid development of solutions. This role combines traditional systems analysis with hands-on technical skills in AI, scripting, and automation to accelerate innovation.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Skills-
AI/ML Fundamentals: Understanding of AI concepts and ability to apply pre-built models or APIs.
Programming: Proficiency in Python for data processing and automation tasks.
Scripting: Experience with Bash for system-level automation and deployment.
Rapid Development: Familiarity with agile methodologies and quick prototyping tools.
Analytical Skills - Ability to analyze business problems and propose technology-driven solutions.
Communication - Strong written and verbal skills for documenting requirements and collaborating with stakeholders.
Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and containerization (Docker).
Knowledge of data integration and API development.
Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.

Term of Service: The initial term of the contract shall commence upon execution of the contract and expires one year from commencement with the option to renew for two, one-year period(s) at TxDOT's sole discretion. TxDOT will provide an intent to renew, in writing, a minimum of 30 days prior to expiration of the current term.
NOTE: The dates, listed below, are estimated and based on the anticipated award date of the contract and will be in accordance with the DIR contract.
1st Renewal Option: One year based on commencement.
2nd Renewal Option: One year based on commencement.
NOTE: Candidate must be in the Austin area as we are required to go into the office 4-5 times a week – no exceptions.

1 Required Collaborate with business units to understand operational procedures, data requirements, and reporting needs (3 yrs exp preferred).
1 Required Document user requirements, workflows, and system specifications for new or modified applications (3 yrs exp preferred).
1 Required Perform feasibility studies and cost/benefit analysis for proposed solutions (3 yrs exp preferred).
1 Required Assist in developing scripts and prototypes to automate processes and integrate AI-driven features (3 yrs exp preferred).
1 Required Review system capabilities and constraints to ensure alignment with TxDOT standards (3 yrs exp preferred).
1 Required Support testing and validation of new solutions in a rapid development environment (3 yrs exp preferred).
1 Preferred Education: Graduates with a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence
