Position Summary

Lockport Steel Fabrication is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Manager of Engineering to lead and oversee all engineering and detailing activities supporting our structural steel fabrication operations. This leadership position is responsible for the management of internal detailing resources, coordination and quality control of external detailing and BIM consultants, and continuous improvement of engineering processes, workflows, and deliverables.

The Manager of Engineering will play a critical role in ensuring project schedules, drawing quality, BIM coordination, and fabrication readiness are consistently achieved. This position requires a strong technical background in steel detailing, proven leadership capabilities, and a passion for operational excellence within the structural steel industry.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the engineering and detailing department.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop in-house detailing personnel.
  • Coordinate and oversee external detailing and BIM consultants to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Establish and maintain engineering quality control standards and procedures.
  • Review drawings, models, and engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
  • Lead BIM coordination efforts with customers, engineers, architects, general contractors, and project teams.
  • Monitor engineering schedules and resource allocation to ensure project deadlines are achieved.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering workflows, productivity, and project execution.
  • Support preconstruction, project management, and fabrication teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with estimating, project management, and operations personnel to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Resolve technical issues and provide guidance on complex fabrication and detailing challenges.
  • Drive accountability, process improvement, and continuous development within the engineering department.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct steel detailing experience utilizing SDS/2.
  • Minimum of 5 years of steel-focused BIM coordination experience.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience within a structural steel fabrication environment preferred.
  • Experience with Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, or similar detailing and modeling software.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, erection processes, and industry best practices.
