We're looking for an experienced Intermediate to Senior Database Administrator who is passionate about maintaining high-performing, secure, and reliable database environments. This role is ideal for a professional with strong SQL Server expertise who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, improving database performance, and supporting critical business applications.
As part of our technology team, you'll play a key role in managing and optimising enterprise database platforms, supporting high availability environments, and driving automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Administer, maintain, and support enterprise-scale database environments
- Implement and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including clustering, availability groups, and replication
- Manage database backups, restores, upgrades, patching, and maintenance activities
- Monitor database performance and proactively identify opportunities for optimisation
- Analyse and troubleshoot database issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures
- Optimise queries, indexes, and database configurations to improve performance and reliability
- Develop and maintain data replication and data movement solutions across environments
- Automate routine database administration tasks using scripting and automation tools
- Support infrastructure and cloud migration initiatives where required
- Ensure database security, access controls, compliance, and data governance standards are maintained
- Create and maintain operational documentation, technical procedures, and support runbooks
- Collaborate closely with development, infrastructure, and application support teams to deliver reliable database services
- Provide guidance and support to junior team members and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives
- Participate in incident management and provide after-hours support when required
What We're Looking For
- 5-8+ years of Database Administration experience within medium to large enterprise environments
- Relevant degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments
- Solid understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, and optimisation techniques
- Experience supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Knowledge of replication technologies, database backup and recovery strategies, and maintenance planning
- Experience with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash
- Exposure to cloud platforms and modern infrastructure environments will be advantageous
- Experience with technologies such as ClickHouse, FoundationDB, Valkey, LGTM Stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir), or similar observability and database technologies would be beneficial
- Understanding of database security, auditing, compliance, and governance practices
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- A proactive and collaborative approach with a strong focus on continuous improvement
