About the role
You will design, deploy, and maintain foundational site services network infrastructure including DNS, DHCP, and NTP to ensure global production reliability. Additionally, you will develop automation tooling and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize network performance and resolve complex incidents.
What they look for
Requirements
Candidates must have 6+ years of experience in network engineering with a focus on production or data center environments and foundational services. Proficiency in automation scripting (Python, Bash) and experience with large-scale network troubleshooting are essential.
Full description
Meta is seeking a Network Engineer to join the Foundation & Support team within Production Network Engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, deployment, and operational health of Meta's site services network infrastructure — the foundational layer that underpins connectivity, reliability, and performance across Meta's global production environments. You will work at the intersection of network engineering and site operations, ensuring that core network services remain resilient, scalable, and aligned with the evolving demands of Meta's production systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain site services network infrastructure supporting Meta's production environments, including DNS, DHCP, NTP, and related foundational network services
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network incidents affecting site services availability, driving root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures
- Develop and maintain automation tooling and scripts to streamline network provisioning, configuration management, and operational workflows for site services infrastructure
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners including systems engineering, data center operations, and software infrastructure teams to align network foundation services with production requirements
- Evaluate network architecture tradeoffs and contribute to capacity planning and lifecycle management decisions for site services components
- Define and track reliability metrics for foundational network services, identifying degradation trends and driving improvements to meet availability targets
- Contribute to team-level goals by identifying gaps in site services network coverage and delivering solutions that improve system resilience and operational efficiency
- Document network designs, runbooks, and operational procedures to support consistent and repeatable site services operations
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response for site services network issues, coordinating with stakeholders to minimize production impact
Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in network engineering with a focus on production or data center network infrastructure
- 6+ years of experience designing, deploying, and operating foundational network services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, or equivalent site services technologies
- Experience developing automation scripts or tooling for network provisioning and configuration management using languages such as Python, Bash, or equivalent
- Experience troubleshooting complex network incidents in large-scale production environments, including root cause analysis and post-incident review
- Experience communicating technical network designs and operational decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through written documentation and presentations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience contributing to capacity planning and lifecycle management for large-scale foundational network services
- Familiarity with BGP, OSPF, or other routing protocols as they relate to data center and site services network design
- Experience with network infrastructure automation frameworks and infrastructure-as-code practices applied to site services environments
- Track record of identifying systemic reliability gaps in network infrastructure and delivering measurable improvements to availability or operational efficiency
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
